🟡 As a student, during practicum time, we have a chance to work with pupils at school.

Last year, we had a month-long practicum, and I did it at a public school in my region. I worked especially with young pupils (ages 10 -12) who are playful and naughty by nature.

🟣 While working with pupils, I noticed that some of them did not do their home tasks, and it was a challenge for me. So, I decided to work on that problem to overcome it. After finishing the internship, I chose that problem as a research topic.

During the internship, I taught predominantly primary school children. But I had a problem with my students' homework. Sometimes they did not do their homework tasks or prepare for the new lesson. So, I wanted to get some ideas and advice from my colleagues by having an informal conversation with them. During that discussion, they gave me some examples to encourage my students to do their home tasks, like making homework suitable for their level and interest, working with those who did not do their assignments, giving rewards to those who did tasks well, and having a conversation with their parents.

However, this issue is not only about primary school children but also all-aged pupils at school

I have gathered my tasks that I want to give my students as homework and presented them to my colleagues to get their opinion. To do this, I have organized a survey for them(questions were open-ended). According to the results, some of my coworkers asserted that they were well-organized and proper for their level. But they have noticed that there were weak points in my work while assigning and checking home tasks. More clearly, while assigning home tasks, I used a traditional way that made my students feel bored which was a common mistake of many teachers. In addition, they have given some suggestions on the home tasks that I prepared. In their opinion, it would be better to encourage them to work in pairs when it is time to check their homework. Since this method may create a chance to exchange ideas.

After getting the results of a survey, I realized that I should work on assessment skills while checking homework rather than changing home tasks

I have organized a micro-teaching session for my student colleagues to find out problems related to home tasks and observe students' performance while checking homework (via videorecording). I identified three of my students out of ten who did not do their homework completely, with the reason of forgetting about the homework. However, the rest did it well. Namely, it was reading with several activities below it. So, we have checked them together. After that, to introduce them to the homework, I gave them a chance to read in 3 minutes while others were making questions on it . After doing this all of my students have been familiar with the home task.

However, I have noticed that when my students did not do their tasks, I did not show any strict reaction towards them. It was my main mistake. And I did not say anything positive to those who did tasks well.

But when I observed my students who did not do their homework. It was identified that they were a bit frustrated, so I tried to attract their attention to the homework using an unusual way. After that, all of my students were able to improve their knowledge on that topic

      Abstract:

Homework is often assigned to help pupils review new topics covered in class, with teachers expecting all students to complete their homework successfully. During my practicum, I observed that not all pupils completed their assignments, including even those who were usually active learners. This disrupted the connection between lessons and negatively affected the learning process. In this presentation, I will share insights from my exploratory action research, gathered through data collection tools such as informal interviews with colleagues, questionnaires, and video recordings of micro-teaching sessions. I will also discuss effective strategies I implemented during the action stage, such as group work and rewarding students who completed their tasks, which proved effective in positively influencing student motivation to complete homework.

Besides, it gives a chance to understand at which point we have difficulties and where we make mistakes. So, I am really happy to learn about EAR with the help of my best teachers.
