It was easy to follow and read. I will incorporate elements from that type of log into my own. I will include an area for strengths, challenges/concerns, and goals for next time. That way my mentee will be able to reflect on what is currently working and what might not be working. From there he or she can create a goal to work towards for next time. I also like the idea of having the teaching standards on the form somewhere. That way my mentee (and I) will know what overall goals we are striving for to become effective teachers.]]> 2019-10-08 16:40:54 UTC https://padlet.com/jessicaaprilwilliams/iivtcqwc2nc3/wish/395157243 j_rubenzer https://padlet.com/jessicaaprilwilliams/iivtcqwc2nc3/wish/396756186 I like the first example because there is plenty of room to write ideas into the boxes.  It is not an alarming amount of information and covers all areas in which a new teacher may have success or difficulty.  I also like the last example.  It records the times the mentor teacher met with the new teacher.  I am so busy that it is sometimes hard for me to remember when I last met with the teachers I am mentoring.  With so little planning time and no common planning time, it is hard to find a time when we can meet.  Currently we talk before and after school. I would like to make sure that we both have a goal we are working to achieve.  If I have one as a mentor, I can discuss how I am achieving my goal each week.  It falls in with leading by example.  Now that we are settling in to the new year, the time management part of the year is getting easier for the both of us. Including these goals in the the mentor log would be valuable for me.

Of the three, I liked the first one the best - Wisconsin CESAs Mentoring Conversation Log. It seemed to have everything that was needed on one page - What was working. Current Focus, Challenges, and/or Concerns. The teacher's AND the mentor's next steps. Also had teaching standards listed on the bottom so one can quickly refer to them and not have to search somewhere else. I would like my mentor log to have space to write observations and room to identify goals, strengths, and weaknesses. I would also like for there to be a checklist of monthly topics that would need to be discussed. I like the idea of an electronic format, mainly because I loose paper versions of logs weekly. I appreciated the open ended quality provided by the outagamie county version. I was really confused at first read, because I didn’t realize this was a youth mentor ship initiative and kept thinking “why is this teacher teaching the new teacher about car batteries?” I did think that having dinner or going away from school grounds could make meetings easier while developing a relationship. I may only do this once a month in a teacher/teacher situation, simply because of logistics and finding “that one thing I wanted to talk to you about.”

For my mentor log, I would want to have a space to make SMART goals, a timeline, and how to know the goal was met. Obviously, it would have the date and lesson name, ect. for reference. It is also important to have a reflection section so the teacher can look at what went well and what could be changed.
