So great to give the trainees the opportunity to talk in groups or pairs. Despite the masks, they adopted this with aplomb! They were so engaged and professional: we sometimes managed to have a laugh which is often what is missing online and I felt they really bonded as a group.

IT! I had two trainees self-isolating and to deliver face to face sessions simultaneously via zoom was so difficult, particularly as, despite assurances from TEL and IT, the cameras in the room weren't working. In week 3, I got one to work but it was completely in the wrong place so didn't show the big screen at all. We managed it using laptops, but this is yet another thing to carry and skill to juggle.

One of the lectures was just a powerpoint. Research shows that they need audio and visual too. It's not that difficult to record a powerpoint with audio and visual but makes such a difference in terms of engagement.

Trainees at Ashdown were shouted at by a staff member in the cafe in the Centre for Innovation and told they were not allowed in there and that they were not allowed to eat inside anywhere on campus. There is only one outside table near Ashdown and no covered tables. If this is indeed the case, then maybe the university can put up some tents?!

It was sometimes hard to move in the space so I wore a mask if what I was doing something that was more interactive. This then means communication is harder. I found lecturing to students when they are all wearing masks quite hard as you can't tell what they are thinking/feeling very easily. It taught me how much I rely on facial expression to check understanding!

It was difficult to find time to devote to discussion of PS lectures. A few of them did throw up some questions which I found hard to answer as I hadn't had time to watch them all myself. Would it be worth the creator of the presentation sending some summary notes to the tutors so we are aware of the overall content and can maybe come up with a few questions to get them to reflect on what they have seen?

Now, it appears that they were encouraging just a lecture style: front led, no real interaction, little hands on activities that engage and inspire. It was really quite depressing to teach in this way. I think in hindsight we should have been given the facts about face to face teaching and been allowed to decide to teach remotely instead - we can make this as interactive as the present restrictions on live teaching.

I really appreciated being able to teach the trainees face to face. I think this helped us all to bond more and to get to know each other. We even managed to include our self-isolating trainee in the face to face sessions which was not without complications but I was very impressed with how the trainees adapted to it. They have all shown immense resilience and commitment (as has been said already) with good attendance and participation. The DST day was very welcome too as it gave everyone a moment to catch their breath!

I think it has gone really well and the number of days is bang on really. They do not seem stressed or tired going into their placement. We have managed to almost do all the sessions we would normally do and even though it has been a bit more stressful, the trainees have been amazing and really risen to the new way of working. Face to Face has been lovely as we can stand to teach and show some emotion. Doing the labs was exhausting though as the goggles and masks are a real drain on your energy for a whole day.

To begin with I really missed them working in groups and feeding back. Felt odd to begin with, but I adapted my teaching for more 'pair' work and was ok then. I really do think it has all gone quite smoothly. I love not having to photocopy lots of stuff and them using their devices instead.

I think this has worked very well. As they are adjusting to this new way of working and being 'on' every day this has helped them acclimatise I think. Lectures are a nightmare anyway, so this way people can pause, think, go off on a tangent if they want to as well. All very well organised and clear for them.

Yes, maybe a way of seeing who has accessed, but I guess that ultimately we have to trust that they know the sessions are worthwhile, that is why they have to be videos and engaging rather than just a series of slides.

I think this has been a really hard job for all tutors this year. For part time staff we are asking a huge amount as they teach their 2 days in induction and then have all these other jobs to do too. I think we need to consider this for next year and how can can streamline this better for tutors. This is Fi by the way writing this, so not a part time tutor with beef! I hope that as we continue through the year and separate the forms and admin from our subject sessions we can only build our partnership better. We have a few schools that are not engaging as much as we would like, but in the current circumstances I think that our partnership is in a great shape. Our schools have signed up for placements in numbers I do not think we could have hoped for. Let's just keep up the communication with mentors and support them.

I'm getting there but I do feel it is adding to my workload having to think of how to make it more engaging. It would also help if we actually had the technology set up in our offices as I don't always have peace at home for online teaching and don't always want to have to bring my laptop on to campus. Whilst I am proud that we managed to include our isolating trainee in the face to face sessions, the lack of camera was frustrating. We also had to repeat what every trainee said so that she could hear through the microphone that only captured the speaker at the front.

I think many, many trainees appreciate the flexibility of the access. We also set up an hour zoom for them to discuss take aways/application to their subject from the lectures in break out rooms which worked well. Although this was only possible because that week's lectures were familiar to me (have not had time to watch all the other ones...)

Not quite sure how we get around it but the quiz/evaluation someone else said is worth considering. I wonder if we had to do this again, whether we could book a room for some of them to watch it with others at a specified time? I really like the longer period of induction - feel about right in terms of preparing them for PP1.
Well organised and great variety. I used Keith's idea of asking my trainees to take turns in pairs to lead a discussion on the lectures. They shared 3/4 important points from the lecture and then lead a discussion with the other trainees. This demonstrated who had engaged with the material and I was impressed with how my trainees prepared and led these discussions. We are continuing with this throughout the year.

Mentors needed time to discuss as this is essential especially without the chance for the normal chit chat they do in person. Next time I will schedule and hour and a half to give them enough time to talk and then for me to pull together to share good practice.

Ashdown rooms are perfect and I wish I could use them all year round, but, there was no provision for eating lunch nearby. I have one trainee who is 22 weeks pregnant and she struggled to walk to Bramber and back each lunchtime with the others, and, if the one bench outside Ashdown House was taken, there was really nowhere for her to sit and eat lunch (especially if it was raining)

These resources were superb. Thank you to all who put these together. Having these *really* helped me as a PT Curriculum Tutor who works in a school three days a week.

I wish I had enough time to watch all of these lectures too so I could know exactly what the trainees were watching but in reality, working at Uni 2 days a week and in a school 3 days a week, this was just not possible. I'm not sure what the answer is but sometimes the trainees asked me questions about the content of them and I honestly could not answer as I had not seen them, which made me feel really silly... Perhaps a summary of what was in each lecture so those of us who are part time could at least have some idea of the lectures?

Placements were challenging but I've been bowled over by the support of our schools. Many of them have agreed to host significant numbers of trainees at such a difficult time. Most schools are taking at least some Sussex trainees.
