Characters make everything more intruiging. The Vampire Diaries per say is one of the best storys ever because of their characters. For example in the show, Nina Dobrev plays Elena Gilbert. Elena is a insecure good girl who has a vampire boyfriend named Stefan played by Paul Wesley. The characteristics of them are amazing. Elena is sometimes very brave and sometimes not. Stefan is selfless. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is both selfish and selfless. If you have good characters, no doubt there will be a good story. If everything goes perfectly there would be no story or adventure. A good story should also have good characters. Having a character you don't like will make you not like the story. The protagonist should have a character arc where there personality or behavior changes. The antagonist can also have an arc but its important that the protagonist changes throughout their journey. These are just some things that make a good story. Furthermore, a story that is not a good piece of literature could have aspects such as there being little to no dialogue. However, the lack of dialogue could work for the story in a more effective way by building suspense, influencing the reader to continue with the story. An example of good literature is the novel, "To Ki11 a Mockingbird". For example, take Fahrenheit 451 or Lord of the Flies. Reading those stories can show human behavior, and how our society functions. While the possibility of burning books is low, the way people react and get caught up in advancements is realistic. Or even Animal Farm works as an example. Reading these books makes me notice more and more how I behave and how others behave. Not only is it interesting, it teaches me. (Animal Farm doesn't teach me, though, d e f i n i t e l y not.
