I thought this was a great book. I was very intrigued by both of the characters, Marie-Laure and Werner. Marie-Laure, who was blind, gave me a realistic insight into the life of a blind person.
But the character that intrigued me the most was Werner, mainly just how smart he was and how easily he figured stuff out that most people found hard. For example, I liked it when a Nazi commander searched out Werner to come and fix his radio since the professional the Nazi commander hired to fix the radio could not fix it and how Werner fixed it with almost complete ease.
Werner learned all this only by listening to people on the radio talk about science and mechanics. That knowledge helped Werner later on in his life to be able to fix radios. People who lived near his orphanage asked for him to come and fix their radios. He could use radios to find others. For example, when Werner was at the academy, Dr. Hauptmann had Werner use his radio to find and locate Volkheimer's transmission. And later in the book, Werner and his squad were able to find and stop illegal broadcasts around Germany, Poland, France, and other countries and kill the broadcasters.
I thought it was sad how the connection between Werner and his sister just kind of disappeared after he left for the army and he could not receive any of his sister's letters. That made me think what if I lost my connection with my family and I could not hear from any of them or write to any of them. If that happened, I might go insane.
Overall, I really liked this book and thought it was very intriguing. I can;t wait to read this author again.
