After undergoing the worst kind of experiences, it was always "I will get over this, i'm going to make it" which is what a lot of people in our society don't have, drive. We continue to glow and shine light to make our way around, such as the moon. This is such a great metaphor for this book because Ishmael literally lives in the dark mentally. He persevered in everything he did, never once did he lack resilience. He accepted that death could be just around the corner, yet he turned over it anyways.
