You are one of the first settlers, who came with the Mayflower and coasted on the American shores in 1620. You survived the crossing and the first year in the colony. You write a letter to a friend or a member of your family, who stayed in Great-Britain. You are free to choose if you want to convince your addressee to join you in Plymouth Colony or to stay in Great-Britain, but some things must be told in your letter. So, in your letter, you have to:

·         Explain who the people were, who travelled with you, and why you decided to settle in America.

·         Describe how the journey on the Mayflower was.

·         Describe where the Colony was established.

·         Explain what happened on the first winter and which problems the Colony and the Settlers had.

·         Describe how the colony was organised.

·         Explain who the Native Americans were (which tribe), how the relations between them and the Settlers were.

Be careful, choose wisely the date, on which you are writing the letter: it will impact the things and event you may describe or not.

Criteria:

·         You have to respect the form of a letter:

o   Write the date and a place at the top, on the right corner of the letter

o   Write the salutation (Dear + person’s name)

o   Write a formal ending (for example: “sincerely”, “love”, “warm regards”).

·         You have to give all the information requested in the instructions.

·         Your letter must be plausible and convincing: your letter must be historically accurate. 

·         Be creative! You will be rewarded if your letter is inventive: there were no computer or typewriter at that time so use your most beautiful handwriting, an envelope and seal it!
