“Say It, Move It” Game: Students will move a counter, tapping it on their desk, for each sound in a spoken word. Differentiation: Have visual sound markers or peer assistance. Teachers can also turn it into a movement opportunity and have students hop for each sound in a word.

Letter-Sound Hopscotch: Students can hop on chalk-letter tiles and say the sound for their letter. Differentiation: Use visual cue cards or pair students with a peer. For advanced students, ask them to find and sound out letters to make up a word.

Build-a-Word with Magnetic Letters: Students form consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words using magnetic letters. Differentiation: Offer letter guides, missing letters from words, or limit word choices for added support.

Vocabulary Story Bags: Fill a bag with items from a story and talk about these vocabulary words. For instance, reading "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog" and having seeds, dirt, a frog, a grandma puppet, etc. from the story. Differentiation: Have picture supports for students with speech or language delays.

Word of the Week Chart: Introduce one new word and use it in multiple contexts and content areas. Differentiation: Use ASL signs and/or use visual supports for ELLs and students with exceptionalities.
