Independence Day (Día de la Independencia) is a Mexican holiday to celebrate the “cry of independence” on September 16, 1810, which started a revolt against the Spaniards. It follows from the day of the Cry of Dolores (El Grito de Dolores), on September 15. It is sort of like the 4th of July for the United States.

SOMETHING NEW I LEARNED

I learned that the national symbol of Mexico is the golden eagle which features prominently on the coat of arms. I also learned that the Mexican culture is similar to the American culture in many ways by their celebrations. They share similar holidays and celebrate their own in sort of the same way. Another thing I learned is the difference in money. I never realized how big of a difference the value was between countries. From my family, I learned the value of children education. They showed how they would risk it all for more opportunities. Something else i learned the Mexican National anthem is about a call of war. The national anthem is called the Himno Nacional Mexicano. This means the Mexicans at the call of war. It was first used in 1854. Although, it was not actually adopted until 1943. The anthem contains ten stanzas and a chorus. It was composed by a poet named Francisco González Bocangera. Francisco González Bocangera wrote the anthem after a Federal contest in 1853. But I learned the anthem was not officially used until September 16, 1854.
