It enables learning, problem-solving, and decision-making.</p><p><strong>🧩 Types of Memory:</strong></p><ul><li><p><strong>Sensory Memory:</strong> Briefly holds incoming sensory information (1–3 seconds).</p></li><li><p><strong>Short-Term/Working Memory:</strong> Holds and processes information temporarily (about 20–30 seconds). Controlled by the <em>prefrontal cortex</em>.</p></li><li><p><strong>Long-Term Memory:</strong> Stores knowledge indefinitely through <em>synaptic strengthening</em> in the <em>hippocampus</em>.</p><ul><li><p><strong>Declarative Memory:</strong> Facts and events</p></li><li><p><strong>Procedural Memory:</strong> Skills and habits</p></li></ul></li></ul><p><strong>🧠 In the Brain:</strong><br>When we learn, neurons form new connections.
