Day 3 - Designing Panels 2,3,4

Start with your design layout - Adding interesting background/shapes/colors
Add your first photo frame that complements your design layout and bring in your first photo
Copy/paste your first sentence, making sure the correct information is placed with your image, your text should not be larger than 12 point - this is your first UNIT
Duplicate this UNIT for your other 8 sections - this keeps the size of text and images consistent
Keep text away from the edges of your page - photos can go past the edge
Stay aware of your alignment
Stay aware of the size of your text - keep the same text size for each paragraph.

By the end of Day 3 - finish your layout and post your brochure and self reflection

You will be designing a front and back tri-fold brochure about yourself using the template provided at the bottom of this column.

- At least 2-4 sentences per section. When typing in MS Word, there should be about 2 lines of type.

Grading

You will be graded on how well you use the Principles of Design:

Hierarchy - The most important information needs to stand out
Balance - What type of balance will you be using in each section
Alignment - your sections will need to have alignment
Proportion - Make sure your section images do not overpower your text
White space - Keep your text away from the edges
Repetition - There will need to be repeating shapes
Movement - How will you be drawing your readers eye through the flier
Contrast - Make sure there is enough contrast between your background and your text to make it readable
Emphasis - Will help you make the most important things stand out
Unity - The shapes and colors that you choose need to work together - nothing should be jarring, repetition is important to help your design feel unified

Day 1 steps

Use MSWord to write down your information. This will help with Spellcheck!
Type a NUMBERED LIST of the 9 sections you will use.
Start typing your at least 2 sentence short paragraphs for each of your sections.
By the end of Day 1 post this MS word document to PADLET under your name.
Begin researching different types of trifold designs for inspiration. See examples below and student examples in Column 3.

Ask yourself these questions during your set up of the blank design in CANVA

Focus on these sets of design principles
-CONTRAST - Do you have sections that are different?
-REPETITION - Do you have elements that repeat?
-ALIGNMENT - Do your margins & shapes line up?
-PROXIMITY - Is there connection between sections? Is the title, photo and paragraph of a section close enough to belong together?
-WHITE SPACE - Have you given your eyes a place to rest? Is there enough white space?

Once your blank brochure is set up in CANVA, begin adding in your information and photos.

Start with your design layout - Adding interesting background/shapes/colors that flow through all 3 panels
Copy this design layout and paste it onto your second page, this will keep your layout consistent
Use your favorite colors in your layout!
Group and lock these designs so they do not move around on you
Panel 1
1. Include:
  - 1 or more photos of yourself - or designs
  - Your first & last Name in decorative typestyle
  - Short introduction of yourself - or quote that you like
Panel 5
1. Include:
  - Graduation year
  - 1 or more Photos of Friends/Family OR designs that you like
Panel 6
- Include:
  - First & Last name - can be smaller
  - Address
  - Phone
  - School email
  - Social media
  (You do not have to include your real contact information unless you want to, but you do need to put information to make it look like a real number or address)
  - Decoration for white space if you have a lot of room left
