-Now that Marlow has traveled all the way down the river how far into madness do you think he is going to become since he has made it to the heart of the jungle?
- Why do you think the natives won’t let Kurtz leave? And if no one has ever returned from the heart of the jungle but Marlow is telling the story in the future alive how do you think he is going to be able to travel back to the camp?
-The river represents temptation, beauty, power/control, and a path way to the heart of the jungle why do you think Joseph Conrad decided to make Marlow go down the river to the heart of the jungle instead of going on land? What symbolism do you think it has?
- Since Mr. Kurtz and Marlow are follies of eachother is Marlow a representation of someone who survived the overwhelming power of the jungle and Kurtz represents someone who fell into its trap?
-I am still confused to why the trib worships Kurtz
-Who is the lady with the helmet?

-How is the river figuratively and physically moving Marlow away from civilization?
-How is the fog covering the truth behind their journey towards Kurtz? What symbolism does the fog have in relation to Kurtz and how the crew knows so little about who he is? Or how the reader has such a vague image of his character?
-The fog represents Marlow’s uncertainty and lack of knowledge in the foreign land of the jungle, and their uncertainty if they will even meet Kurtz because they don’t know if he’s alive.
-What are Marlow’s impressions of Kurtz based on what the Russian is telling him? How is the Russian being treated by Kurtz?
-How is Kurtz treating those he’s “close” to?
-How does the russians description of Kurtz contrast to his actual physical appearance?

Does the fog represent Marlows confused, troubled emotions as he heads down the river? Why was it not appearing at the very start of the river and much closer toward the station?

The fog appears after a a fight with the natives and Marlow consistently describes it as full of “despair”. The fog could represent the jungle blinding the people who enter it and then taking what it wants from them causing them loss and sadness. Marlow is also described as looking into the fog in front of them which represents the unknown not only of what the jungle in the future might be, but what the station and Mr. Kurtz. There was not much fog at the start of the river, but as yo head down, it increases to reveal the evil, blinding nature of the jungle increasing as you go in further. Throughout the trip down th river the fog implies confusion, unknown, and darkness with Marlow and the Jungle.
-Cate Rocheleau
