An early leaf refers to a child with innocence still intact. It only lasts an hour because everybody eventually loses their innocence, and mostly when in their young stages of life. It refers to it as an hour because in the grand span of one's life, childhood is quite minuscule. Frost is saying that everybody starts out with innocence, but eventually you will lose it.
