1- Students aren't engaging with the class, and some of them do not participate. The teacher is bored with doing the same things year after year. Also, student reading levels span the spectrum: one student with special needs at a 4th grade level, a number of readers are highly gifted and many fail somewhere in between.
2- To adrdress learner variability, the teacher incorporates multiple strategies to help all students engage with her story:
- uses a variety of resources.
- highlight big ideas.
- scaffolding.
- monitors students' work.
Also, to increase student participation and engagement, she tries to reduce the time she spends lecturing in front of the class, design a cooperative learning task, and uses UDL principles.
3- Laura addresses assesment using thumbs up/down at the beginning of the lesson. She observes student engagement as she walks around the room and develops a music product rubric to assess the project.
4- She adapted to students using UDL principles in order to make the class more engaging and accessible to everyone.

1. The lack of engagement and participation, and the gap between students regarding their reading abilities
2. Diversifying her ways to help students approach the material (multiple means of representation)
3. She checks quickly the students' understanding of the topic, and then walks around the classroom checking their progress and comprehension
4. She studies and researches new ways to make her lessons more approachable and engaging, keeping in mind their students' needs, becoming a facilitator. This is something we should all do instead of doing the same over and over again.

1. There is lack of participation and differences in students' reading levels.
2. By providing multiple means of engagement, variability can be addressed.
3. There is informal assessment (such as thumbs up/thumbs do) and also a rubric to assess the final projects, the Music Product Rubric.
4. By using UDL, teachers can be true facilitators of learning, learning can be deeper and more relevant and students can be more engaged.

Felipe González, Heidi Núñez, and Fabián Pérez.

1. Laura identifies several barriers present in her group of student. For instance, their level of reading skills was varied, they need scaffolding, some of them manage a narrow range of vobaulary words and present difficulties organizing their ideas.
2. She provides her students with several multimodal resources to facilitate and allow them to work on their own, therefore addressing learner variability.
3. She asseses her students both formatively and sumatively by using a rubric. However, she monitors them throughout the entire class by supervising their group work.
4. The most signifcant leraning from Laura's lesson is the way she organizes the class in order to include different activities and lower her lecture time.
