I chose this image because it really spoke of what I personally went through. I also chose this image to tell of how other types of couples faced discrimination. I am a homosexual male. Before June 26, 2015 I was told by my country that my relationship with my same sex partner was not the same as a heterosexual couple. On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the land ruled that my relationship was the same as a heterosexual couple. The Supreme Court ruled that all homosexual couples deserves the same material rights as a heterosexual couple in all 50 states. On February 14th, 2016, I legally married my same-sex partner in Las Vegas.

I chose this picture of equality because Malala Yousafzai should be an inspiration to everyone who wants an education. In her native country, the Taliban forbid girls from getting an education. Yousafzai was shot in the head for trying to go to school. She survived the gun shot. She didn't retreat and gave up. She became more persistent in getting an education and became an advocate for women's education. Even with death treats from the Taliban Yousafzai is fighting for the equality for women to get an education all over the world which has become an international movement.

He was instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement through nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience. I choose this image because of the influence Martin Luther King had with his famous "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963 at the March on Washington at our nation's capital.

In 2017 women still have a hard time with "breaking that glass ceiling". Women earn just 77% of what men earned for the same identical sum of work.

This image displays a different concept of achieving equality than other padlets I did earlier this semester. This image shows individuals risking everything for a life for equality. This image reminded me of the text “The Passing of Grandison” by Chesnutt, Charles W. The text demonstrates the human need for equality. Grandison knew the harsh treatment he and his family could face if they were captured by the Colonel and his men. However, Grandison and his family seized the risk. Once they got on the boat to travel to Canada, Grandison spotted the Colonel on the dock and he boldly waived the Colonel goodbye, forever. Chesnutt used Grandison to teach the reader that a slave will risk being beaten or worst killed than face another day as a slaved person. Chesnutt demonstrated that when a person has obtained their freedom that person has gain equality.

This image shows the concept of marriage equality. Australia last week pass legislation that it is legal for same sex marriage. Same-sex couples can get married next month. Last padlet I showed a picture of people fighting for the equality of marriage. This image shows marriage equality achieved. This image reminded me of the text “Incidents in the life of a slave girl” by Jacobs, Harriet.. Harriet shows in her narrative that a person will go through any harsh conditions to have equality for themselves and loved ones. For Example, Linda stayed in an attic crawl space for 7 years for equality for herself and children.

This image shows the concept of equality in one’s ability. People with disabilities should be awarded same opportunities as non-disable people when it comes to basic human rights like, housing, employment and education. With this image, it reminded me of the text “Incidents in the life of a slave girl” by Jacobs, Harriet. Jacob uses the character Linda to show the determination a person has when they want equality just like this image. Jacobs used Linda to describe slaved black women as not weak, submissive and cowardly, but as powerful, determine, strong minded and brave people.

This idea by law everyone has equality no matter what their age, race, gender, national origin, religious beliefs, disability and sexuality are. This image reminded me of the text “Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass” by Douglass, Frederick. The entire text Douglass is determined to have a life of equality. In this narrative Douglass fights for equality for education, equality for human rights and equality for justice.

When you see this silhouette, you know what to feel and think (People fighting for equality). This picture reminded me of the text “David Walker’s Appeal”by Walker, Davis. The entire text of “David Walker’s Appeal” has many themes but the one theme that sticks out to me is equality. During the time period Walker wrote this text displayed his bold bravery. Walker uses this narrative to preach that black people are as equal as white people in the eyes of Jesus Christ, and the only person we should call master is Jesus Christ.

This image shows the concept of equality. The meaning of the image is that everyone may appear different but are equal. This image compares to the first padlet I did earlier this semester because everyone wants respect, kindness, understanding, and fairness. The text “The Passing of Grandison” by Chesnutt, Charles W. demonstrates the concept of equality. Chesnutt portrays Grandison as this quiet, obedient and cowardly person. In contrast Grandison was a very intelligent, and knew how to connive a person. Grandison didn’t escape when Dick wanted him too because Grandison wanted to wait and free all his people in the south when the time was right, so they all can have a life of equality. Chesnutt wanted his audience to understand that slaves were very smart people and knew how to use their wits to conspire and survive.
