Ratliff's book "Every Song Ever" was certainly unlike any other book I have ever read. I have never read a book discussing musical elements such as Ratfliff's book did. There were certain parts of the book that I definitely did enjoy, especially in the earlier chapters. For instance, Ratliff used many examples from popular TV shows, well-known songs, albums, and playlists, and symphonies to exemplify the musical elements in his book, making them easier to understand. However, there were quite a few aspects of the book that I did not enjoy. For example, many of Ratliff's ideas were only Ratliff's ideas, meaning you could not find sources anywhere to back up his ideas. Overall, I did not love many of the ideas in Ratliff's book very much, but I did enjoy his way of presenting his ideas.

"Ben Ratliff, the longtime popular-music critic for The New York Times, is very much an enthusiast, which is in no way remarkable among those who write about popular music — that near-oceanic category that includes jazz, world, country, folk, hip-hop, reggae, punk, goth, heavy metal, nearly everything except classical."
