I think it varies based on how an athlete approaches the sport -- if he/she sees it as his/her sole reason for coming to school every day, it would be really hard to have that taken away after investing so much time and effort into it. However, there are still a lot of people who view sports as a hobby and have no problem moving on, seeing their athlete days as more of a fond memory than a regret.

I agree, whether it is easier or harder to move on will vary from athlete to athlete. If they are moving onto college, and then into a career for that sport, it's never really a goodbye, and the transition is easier. But, for those whose senior year was the last time they will play that sport for the rest of their lives, moving would be something that is very difficult to deal with.

I think that even students who hated playing their sports might end up missing them at least a little bit, especially if they aren't going to play in college. They might miss their team members or how great it felt to accomplish things. As for students who loved playing sports in high school, I think that it would be very hard to move on with life and try to find other outlets.

I think that most high school athletes that are really committed to their sport can agree that when you spend years of your life on doing something, when it is taken away or is done, it definitely takes some getting used to

I think it would be tough to stop playing your sport 100%, but many people stay connected with it by watching it, coaching kids, or even still playing themselves recreationally.

I think it can be difficult to move on in life after being a successful high school athlete. These are adolescents who dedicate countless hours working on increasing their athletic ability and working with a team, and often it's the last chance they have to do so. For some extremely successful athletes, they might feel lost after receiving so much attention for their abilities from colleges and classmates.

I think for some athletes it may be difficult because they dedicated so much time into it so it might be really hard to move on especially if they had hopes of playing professionally, but I know many athletes who take their sport seriously but they don't see themselves being a professional athlete, so it may be easier for those who have other goals in life they want to achieve to move on to the next part of their life.

There are definitely people that put a lot of their time and effort and life into high school sports, and I think that for some people, it's a big part of their life and an escape from maybe a home life issue or whatever it is. I think for many it could be hard to let go of this and move on, but I don't think that's the case for the majority of particicpants

I will be the outlier and say that most high school athletes don't struggle to move on. Sure, they miss the sport and their teammates but they are still fully able to move on with their life. This question seems to suggest that they are crippled with the lack of playing their sport, which is not true.

I don't believe so. I think that at the end of the sport a lot of the time it's your senior year and people look back on those memories in a bitter-sweet way. However, at the end of the day a lot of the time people move onto college or the work force which gives them something else to focus on.
