Most students are originally identified with the possibility of having a learning disability by parents or teachers. This is noticed when a student or child is struggling within their academics. Students are then referred to a professional who can then asset the child's struggles and determine the areas where they may be struggling. Professionals can then conclude if the student would fall in the category of SLD. They do this by preforming a series of assessments based off intelligence, observation, medical, and psychological factors. These students can remain in standard classroom settings but often times their are resources in place for these disabilities such as special education classrooms, resource rooms, and specialized programs to assist students with SLD.

Adaptations- Simplified curriculum for a better understanding by focusing on one specific topic to prevent students from getting overwhelmed. Teaching modifications can also be applied that way the objective of the lesson is catered to those with learning disabilities; This can be done in small groups or at a slower pace for students to grasp the knowledge. In recent years technology has also been applied, for example talk to text reading for those who struggle with reading.

Accommodations- These accommodations are put in place to help students learn without changing the required material. How information is presented can often look different for those with SLD. This can include images, larger print, and verbal response opposed to written. Testing accommodations are also put in place such as extended time on a assignment, breaks, reduced answer options, and assistance from a teacher while taking a test.

These strategies are extremely important for the well-being of a child with learning disabilities. It is important for the adults in the students life to have open communication and work together to encourage the child.

Behavioral Strategies- Having set expectations and rules in place for the student to refer back to. When they display positive behavior they should receive positive reinforcement in return.Teaching self-regulation is also an extremely important aspect. Give the student time and space to cool down. It is also impact for care takers to display positive behavior as well.

Social Strategies- Teaching social skills is just as important as teaching behavioral skills. This is done by encouraging peer support and corruptive learning. Encouraging students to get out their comfort zone while still regulating them has shown significant improvement within social strategies.
