Mary Louise Brooks, an infamous name in Flappery, was a prominent figure throughout the American Jazz Age, and a Hollywood actress and dancer. She was notorious for her pale features and bobbed brunette hair, and acted indifferently through her bold sincerity and public sense of humor, which quickly rose her as an icon amongst the flappers in 1920. She started her career off as a dancer in the Denishawn Dancers troupe, at only 15 years old. After a dispute among the members, she left the group and joined as a chorus girl in George White's Scandals. In these performances, she came to the attention of Walter Wanger, a producer at Paramount Pictures, who signed her with a 5-year contract with the studio.
