When teachers give group projects, it is important to assess individual knowledge to see if the students are learning and performing based in the project they were given. This will help students show the work they have contributed and it shows the teacher what the student did to help the group complete the project. When making a rubric for the students or yourself to use to grade peers, it is important that you make the criteria on the rubric clear. When that students know the clear expectations, they will be held to that high standard and they will know what they need to do to get the best score. Below there are three ways to assess groups in a way that they understand the criteria and expectations.
There are three types of group assessments:
-Sample Group Process Assessments
-Sample Group Process Evaluation Form
-Sample Qualitative Group Evaluation
(see samples below)

In field experience I have witnessed a teacher teaching the students how to grade each other through a "group process assessment" rubric by giving examples. After that, the teacher allowed the students to practice this kind of grading on a previous group project.

In field experience this semester I experienced students participating in group work on a science project. The students were given a "group process assessment" rubric so that the teacher could determine which students were participating in the project.
