You’ll meet with subject specialists from your own and other organisations in the West Midlands to look at an area of common concern.  You’ll meet four times over a period of between 4-6 months, and will be able to network and share between meetings via email and social media.  You'll also have ongoing support from the WMCETT team.

New network groups for the Spring term include:
  • Maths and ESOL.  Learners for whom English is a second or third language often experience difficulties with the language used in maths, rather than the maths itself. This group will explore how learners can be helped with this, particularly adults. The first meeting is 1-3.30pm, Friday, 25thJanuary, at the University of Warwick.
  • Developing mathematical resilience.  This will explore learners' unhelpful attitudes and emotions, such as maths anxiety and ‘I can’t do maths’ beliefs.  It will explore the Growth Zone Model as a means to help learners understand and articulate their feelings, and what teaching for mathematical resilience means.  The first meeting is 9.30-12.30, Friday, 1st February 1 at BAES in Aston, Birmingham, and will feature expert input from Sue Johnston-Wilder (University of Warwick).

Courses will also be available after 31st March subject to normal ETF fees.
