Sarah also received 35,000 dollars from her parents to start this business. At the end of the day she needed more money to peruse her dreams of a clothing brand. Sarah had the opportunity to work in South Africa. This was started by a group of former Mackenzie workers. South Africa was going through a dual economy, the question was; how can we get the black South Africans farmers to plug into the incredibly successful supermarket economy. She discovered non profit wasn’t for her. She realized there is so much delicacy that is needed to push non profit projects through. She moved back to NYC after the non profit trip in South Africa in 2011, then got a private equity job and took it a few months later. Her expectations for this job were that it would be her dream job. She was only there for four months. The cultural fit was terrible for her, she was one of two females. She explained it was very clear from week one that she made a mistake. After being in a unfortunate cultured workplace, and going through the non profit trip she felt like a loser. Sarah struggled heavily with her mental health during and after her private equity job. She would see her psychiatrist two or three times a week. She was a wreak after leaving her job with no plan, but at the same time felt free again. Her failure brought her to figuring out what she wanted to with her life.
