Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality is something that is very interesting to me. It's so new to us as a generation and now it's budding on the horizon of becoming a very useful teacher tool.
This is something that I have little to no experience with, but I have a feeling I would catch on quickly. It's not a complex concept to understand, it's just amazing that technology has advanced so rapidly and that this is a concept that is readily available to us.
As I was on the youtube channel link for Virtual Reality, I happened upon some very unique videos that sparked an idea for my students. My students are OBSESSED with... Blippi. Blippi is an educational character that films himself going on different adventures and acts SO silly. Here's a link to one of his videos if you've never heard of him:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MutkoAXJcnU.
My 4 & 5 year olds LOVE him. This virtual reality could give them an opportunity to BE Blippi. They could go places, describe where they're going, and just be silly--all while learning about wherever they are.
In Pre-K, we typically teach using themes (i.e. insects, ocean animals, fairytales, holidays, etc.). There are SO many resources and videos available that would captivate my young learners. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, several zoos have uploaded virtual field trips onto their websites. Not only is this educational but it's also SUPER engaging for preschoolers. I'm excited to see how VR emerges in the educational setting and hopefully, when we are back in our classrooms, I can implement some of these strategies.

Here is a link to a dolphin 360 VR video and a link to a virtual field trip to the zoo.

{Dolphins} https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbT_e8lWWdo

{San Diego Zoo} https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTaL07EW3iw

Artificial Intelligence

As I was watching the video on where we stand with AI right now, I would be lying if said it didn't make me slightly fearful about the future. These machines can become so powerful and with how we as humans are handling this COVID-19 "pandemic," I can't imagine the panic that would cover the human race if AI were to "take over."

The only AI that I'm familiar with are Alexa, Google Home, and Siri. All of these are voice recognition AI, and are SUPER helpful in our day-to-day lives. I've even seen where these types of AI are super beneficial in the classroom. I'm thinking about taking one of my personal ones into my classroom for next year. I feel like this type of technology can be used to ENHACE instruction, not replace the instructor.

As you were stating in your video, these machines being able to differentiate to meet the needs of each student could be super helpful in the classroom. In my opinion, a HUGE part of teaching is being able to read body language and facial expressions. This is how the majority of my 4 and 5 year olds communicate with me. That would be something that I wouldn't feel comfortable relying on AI for.

In the article you posted, it stated that these machines can be super helpful on the administrative/paper work side of teaching. THIS WOULD BE A LIFE SAVER. There are so many "non-teaching" areas of our career that take time away from our actual teaching. I know that this could be extremely useful in the classroom and would take that burden off of teachers.

Overall, I'm excited [nervous], about the future of AI in our daily lives. Like you said, it probably won't affect us, but maybe our kids' kids.
