He learned to be compassionate and endure the hardship. After the war, Jethro's family goes from poverty to wealth. Irene Hunt inspires the general reader to know the true American Dream.

This book is about a boy named Pat who plays basketball throughout his life.  He then went on to play basketball at Citadel College.  His team is not very good and he therefore has a long season.  During the book,  Pat talks about the difficulties of his childhood. He also explains certain things that made him the person he now is. Throughout the book Pat develops a great relationship with his coach in college.

The Richardson's are questioning the Warren's and know that something is not right with them being in the town. Celeste Ng shows how people want to be perfect and people around them to be perfect but that can't always be the answer. There is also mystery in this novel and things that make us ponder what is actually going on and the secrets that we are waiting  to find out about.
