- What are your expectations of this class? - How would you describe your level of interest in current events/politics? (8/25/17)

My expectations for this class will be that it challenges me because I do not know much about civics and the government. I have heard that the tests coming up are difficult and stressful, so I will try my best to be prepared for them. I would like to learn more about the government and civics because I believe that it is important to be in the know with that topics growing up. Right now though, I don't know much about the government nor have much interest in it.

Illinois right now is in rough shape with Chicago and the budget deal. I hope that we can somehow lower crime rates in Chicago whether that be from heavier enforcement, community support, etc. Also, Illinois needs to get better economically and pass a budget to help everyone.

I was lost at some parts during the reading, but I did remember a decent amount of the Declaration of Independence from the assignment that we had about paraphrasing the document.
My favorite part of the Declaration of Independence is the statements where they call out the King for all his invasions and tyrannical escapades because that is the main reason besides our freedom for the 13 colonies to break away from England.

Reflect on Mr. Smith goes to Washington

I did not like this movie much because it was very boring and dull. Most of the movie was not exciting until the end because of the scripted dialogue. Scenes like when Mr. Smith is first introduced into his office it is like 15 minutes of scripted dialogue that bored me. Towards the end though I began to enjoy the movie due to the crazy turn of action and violence. Like the boys were passing out the papers and crazy things were happening.

Creative Idea for Mr. Smith

Mr. Smith is definitely for the people and fights hard to end corruption in the office. I would think that he would belong to a Democratic party because he is for the boy's camp that he created and fights for justice. The boys camp that he had been running before office gave him the inspiration to pose the bill to get the boy's all over the nation together to gather. That is support showing how he cares for people and the youth.

Rodney Davis and Jefferson Smith both support causes alike. Jeff Smith pushes for change for people involving nature like stopping the corrupted Dam from being built. Like that Davis pushes for a farm bill that cut 23 billion dollars in spending. Rodney has also demonstrated his ability to lead even in a divided government. Like in the movie, Jeff Smith stood alone and worked the Senate back in his favor.
