Coconut milk and coconut are widely used in Honduran meals.

    Benefits of coconuts -->

   1) Highly nutritious - they contain manganese, which is vital for bone health and the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and cholesterol

   2) Contains powerful antioxidants such as gallic acid, caffeic acid, salicylic acid, and p-coumaric acid

However, they are high in fat and calories. Some research shows the consumption of coconut oil could lead to increased cholesterol levels, putting a person at risk for a heart attack.

Many believe that faith plays a role in healing. It is suggested that people are more likely to use prayer as a substitute for medical treatments.

Access to health care and making decisions is determined by poverty level, socioeconomic status, and whether or not they live in a rural or urban environment. Poverty is a leading issue in Honduras, with 66% of the population living in poverty and 1 in 5 living in extreme poverty. It is also difficult to receive healthcare in rural environments, even though there are efforts to improve this. Despite the Ministry of Health in Honduras providing care to nearly 90 percent of the population, these services are primarily available in developed cities, leaving the rural population under-treated.
