Phone calls are a good way to communicate with families when you might not be able to see them in person. A meeting can be set at a certain time to be able so that it is an ok time for both the childcare center and the parents

Lately, I had to make a phone call to one of our parents. It wasn't something too serious, just one of them things I wanted to tell them, but not on the app. One of the first things I said to the parent was, "The child's name is okay, I just wanted to touch base with something." The parent later thanked me for telling them right away their child was fine because the first thing they thought when seeing our number pop up was that we must want their child to be picked up for some reason.

I have an open communication relationship in my home with the family I'm caring for. During drop off and pick up, I want to have a conversation with the parents, even if it's just a casual hi and hello. That is also a good time to speak about any concerns, needs and learning that the child has. And how can we support the child in every way that will help him/her development.

"Families will not feel comfortable if there is no trust" while engaging with members of the family. Once they come in contact with the educators within the center and room, the parents see how the educators are with other children and they feel the calmness and atmosphere within the center. The educators are introduced to parents and child, or children open communication is a priority for all involved.

Effective communication means sharing your ideas or information in a clear and easy way so others can understand you. It includes speaking clearly, listening to other, and using polite words. You should also choose the right way to talk, like face to face, phone call or message. Good communication helps people work well together, solve problems, and avoid mistakes. It is important for school, work, and daily life. Telephone calls are way to talk with parents or teachers about a child’s progress or problems. When I make calls, I speak clearly and listen carefully to share and get important information. After the call. I write a short note about what we talked about. These notes help me remember details and share information with others. Telephone calls and notes help keep everyone informed and work together to support the child.

When my son was younger and went to daycare. his (auntie) educator and I used a 2 way journal to communicate. She could use it to document behaviours and everything he did during his day. How much he ate, how he slept and if she needed anything else from me. We shared ideas and success in his potty training. Etc. It also worked well if she was gone before I got there, I'd still have all the info I needed.

When I became an educator I was disappointed that wasn't a thing anymore. It was a beautiful thing to see all the positive things he was doing. Even if it was only in bullet form. Understanding this takes a lot of time when in full form.

informal exchanges & parent observations. Mandy

Informal exchanges are the moments when parent/caregiver drops off or picks up their child/ren and communication happens between them and the educator and even with their child/ren. parent observations is where educators allow parents/caregivers the opportunity to watch their child/ren in their program. giving them space and allowing them to drop in and watch whenever they want to. allowing them to give feedback. all of this builds the relationship between parent's and educators. my experience with informal exchanges and parent observations were always good, they seen how well i was interacting with their child and giving feedback on their child always gave them comfort in leaving them with you. and the parents no matter how long you see them for they are always watching, allow them that space so they can know they are leaving their child in a safe space. it was like i was removing doubt from their mind as they watched and then they would leave. children too will see the mutual respect and model those behavior too.

The different apps used in daycares are very helpful. Parents and caregivers are immediately informed of any unforeseen events. A week ago, the fire alarm was accidentally activated at the school (since the early learning center is inside the school facilities). At the center, we follow the protocol for fire alarms. A general message was immediately sent to all parents through the app (Lillio app), in which they were informed that there was a fire alarm (at the school) but that all the children were fine. Some parents arrived immediately, others arrived at the regular pick-up time. However, all parents and caregivers like the app because they are immediately informed of any incident that happens to the children (be it daily activities, injury reports, behavioral reports, symptoms of illness, etc.).

violeta

Phone calls are great because they let you have a direct, real-time conversation with my kid's school. I can ask questions and get immediate answers, and clear up any confusion right away. Plus it feels more personal and shows the school you're really involved in your kid's learning. Sometimes emails or notes get missed or delayed, but a quick call can solve things faster. It's like sitting down for a chat instead of just passing notes.
