I would say one of the main themes in this book is Christopher learning to become more independent. He is different then every one else but as the story goes on he can do more and more things. He has to learn how to become independent through hardships he encounters in the book. Like when he found out his own Father killed Wellington or when he got lost on the subway system.

The main theme is the book Wonder is also Independence and growing up. In the beginning of the book the main Character August acts very immature and he knows it but as the book goes on he becomes more and more mature. He too also goes through hardships like when his dad told him that he threw away his space helmet so he would "Grow Up".

In both books the main characters are different and they both have problems they have to overcome and there issues make it harder to accomplish. Both August and Christopher are treated different because they are disabled. They start out the book totally reliant on their parents and as the book goes on they slowly are able to do more and more.
