He is different then every one else but as the story goes on he can do more and more things. He has to learn how to become independent through hardships he encounters in the book. In the beginning of the book the main Character August acts very immature and he knows it but as the book goes on he becomes more and more mature. Both August and Christopher are treated different because they are disabled.
