Symmetry in relation to social psychology is more relevant than most tend to realize. We all might look for partners and even friends that have symmetry in not just their face, but the rest of their body. This is a normal behavior to exhibit and some people do not even know that they are doing it. The reason that most of us look for symmetry within another person's face or body is to tell us if they are healthy or not. Asymmetry can lead your mind to wonder what happened, are they not healthy, why is this not normal? Most studies have found that people with symmetrical faces are more attractive and therefore more partner worthy.

Most people tend to find people with average faces more attractive. Many think that they have their type, but a lot of people tend to just look for the average qualities and that is how they prove to themselves that a specific person is attractive. Genetics make this theory difficult because everyone is made so differently, but has underlying similar qualities. When people's faces match and look familiar to faces of the rest of the population, this person is deemed more attractive. Therefore, typical faces are judged as more attractive than distinct faces.

Waist to hip ratio is a common thing that people, specifically men, look for in women. This ratio signifies one's sex and if it were to mismatch what the typical numbers are supposed to be, then that person is deemed unattractive and abnormal. It is common to see the abnormalities as women with high waist to hip ratios and men with low waist to hip ratios. Therefore, it is also common to see men lean towards finding women with a low waist to hip ratio more attractive. Higher ratios also mean that you have more fat around your hip, which men look at as unhealthy. It is difficult in today's world when you constantly see thin women on magazines and as models because women want to be this skinny and men want to have a woman like this.

Tattoos and piercings have become extremely common in today's world, whereas back then it was frowned upon. However, it can lead to the determining factors on if a person is attractive or not. Tattoos can hold many meanings because it depends on what the person wants when they are getting it. Piercings are chosen and placed in a location wherever that person seems fit. Some tattoos or piercings may be hidden by clothing, but like in this picture both are obvious. There have been many studies that have proven that a large number of women tend to see men as more attractive if they have tattoos, however there was a lower percentage of attractiveness if a woman had a tattoo. There have also been studies on piercings. Depending on the location, they can be seen as less attractive, especially if a piercing were to be on someone's face and same goes for a tattoo. This has to do with the average face theory. All in all, it comes down to what a person likes and does not like in their partner, which then tells a person if they find someone attractive or not. Body modification has given people the freedom to do whatever they want. Therefore, it is something they are choosing to do to be different and express something. However, little do they know it can interfere with their attractiveness.
