Both stories seemed to have the same idea of slavery and oppression against different races but Kindred seemed to have a more detailed plot, also including sexual identity conflicts. I like the fact that Veronica was an activist for black women but I didn't like how you didn't really get to see why Elizabeth was specifically targeting Veronica. In Kindred, I like how the protagonist has a direct link to the antagonist which makes their lives depend on each other.

The message of: “The past is never dead. It's not even past.” was present in both.
The movie had a lot of symbols like the butterfly, the plane etc... As for Kindred didn't have much of that however both had a lot of foreshadowing.
I equally liked both because they did really well in conveying their message.

Although "Kindred" and "Antebellum" are very similar in the sense that there's an oppressive group of whites who mistreat Slaves and a black woman protagonist comes in to make a change. I prefer the movie because I have a short attention span and this movie got all of the same points across while keeping me entertained.
I would give the book a 7.5/10 because despite it not being the most entertaining It simultaneously talks about slavery and the importance of the past but not in a completely boring Wich helps to get Octavia Butlers message across.

Both of these stories have similarities and differences they both go in depth in the oppression of black people like the oppression of freedom of speech. However they have their differences because in the movie 🎥 Antebellum she couldn’t control her whereabouts. I preferred Kindred on one level because it gave me a more in depth analysis of the struggle. But I also liked Antebellum because it gave me a visual of the reality of slavery and how it is still relevant even after the abolition of slavery.

Both the movie and the book were similar to each as mentioned by everyone else but Kindred seemed to be more about education while Antebellum was more about communication. As for the one I prefer, Id say I enjoyed Antebellum more. 1 because it was a movie. 2, in kindred we know she time travelled but we don't understand why but in Antebellum we assume she travels back in time until the guy answered his phone which creates a moment of confusion I guess,. To me, that part made the movie better than the book.

Both Kindred and Antebellum are centered around the same idea of modern people going back to slavery and have very similar components. Although Antebellum was really good and used many historical components as well as lots of symbols and foreshadow, I preferred the novel Kindred. Since it also focuses on the ideology of that time and I preferred the characters in Kindred. And because it also gave hope since Dana wasn't fully trapped in that time. In Antebellum I really liked how they showed what slavery was really like, unlike most movies where they brush over the pain and not focus on the oppressions that was taking place. I also liked how the movie included the sentence where they say 'they are everywhere and no where' which is hinting to how white supremacy is everywhere but for some they think of it as non existent

The book Kindred was a great novel, I liked how the author put Dana, someone we could relate to a lot, because of the time period she is from, in the novel. This made us learn about slavery and everything in the antebellum south from a more modern point of view, which was different to what we typically learn it from.

I think both the movie and the book have similar themes. Antebellum was interesting because it was a bit more of a mystery. The book also was interesting but I feel like it was more of something that makes you think rather than something to entertain. I think that antebellum was also more effective at showing the theme of violence because i think it hits you harder when you actually see it rather than read about it.

Even though Antebellum is meant to be a scary movie, it doesn't have the usual elements of a horror movie (like clowns, etc.) The only thing making it scary is that they are true events that have actually happened in the past. So I think for that reason, both the movie and the book have the same purpose; to showcase the horrors of slavery and how it still could affect people of the present. The difference in each of them is that Kindred is more detailed, but the details in Antebellum are visual, which makes it harder to watch in my opinion.

I would recommand the movie to someone who thinks that people should just "move on" from slavery and that racism is just a made up concept because this movie really shows that these elements are still present to this day.

I believe that even though both the movie and the book were discussing the Antebellum South, the book did a better job at creating a realistic version of the facts. In the book, there was explanations for everything that happened. I found the movie a bit hard to follow, and I also think that it was unrealistic that such a plantation would exist today and nobody would be able to notice it. I believe both were equally effective in showing the violence towards slaves because in the movie we can see what's happening and in the book it is described in details.

Both the novel and the movie were really good but if I have to choose one I’d pick the novel because 1. I like reading 2. I feel like the novel was really well detailed and explained and didn’t confuse me although the movie did kind of confuse me with the whole time travel/not really time travelling thing. The novel really focuses and elaborates on slavery and how people actually lived through those times in a realistic way whereas the movie focuses more on escaping slavery rather than the actual problem
