This put them in a bad place because without a ruler their country would suffer. For the people he benefited, they were looking for someone just like Lenin to continue the same system. For those who didn't like Lenin's leadership, they wanted someone that could help their needs. This was called collectivization, and Stalin had complete control over the large farm.
