“Sometimes it can be difficult to determine whether or not a doctor is needed when something is wrong with your physical or mental health” (Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 8: Health Care Services.” v1.0. iBooks.). Determining what to do can be a big decision especially in the case of an emergency. Knowing when to call a doctor is very important for the safety of your health and the health of others.

“You may also be sent to the ER by your doctor if you have an underlying condition, such as hypertension or diabetes, which could complicate your diagnosis and require extra care” (Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 8: Health Care Services.” v1.0. iBooks.). The ER is used my many people all the time for many different reasons. They are ER is mainly to quickly save someone's life or someone's body part like a limb. People rush to the ER if they have all kinds of symptoms like your vision is gone, you have very bad burns, you pass out, have seizures, or you pass out.

“For certain medical emergencies, such as a heart attack or stroke, taking an ambulance is safer because paramedics can deliver life-saving care on the way to the hospital” (Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 8: Health Care Services.” v1.0. iBooks.). If the pain is very serious or you are alone it is better to call for assistance than to try and take care of yourself. Sometimes the problem can be much more serious than you would think and if you try to keep doing things while you are in pain and not get help can make it worse or can cause more problems later.

When to go to Urgent Care

“While urgent care clinics are always available, your primary care physician will have a better picture of your overall health for a more accurate diagnosis” (Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 8: Health Care Services.” v1.0. iBooks.). While urgent care could be the right choice it is always better to try to see your regular doctor. If it is an emergency and you can't get to your doctor soon then it is important to go to urgent care but if possible it is better to go to your normal doctor because they will have a better understanding of what's happening.

thrownWhen my little sister was just a toddler my mom had put her to bed but later heard her throwing up. My mom went to get her and clean her up when she noticed she had up blood. Since it was the middle of the night and it wasn't that much blood and it wasn't constant it stopped really soon, my mom took her to urgent care. She ended up being taken to the hospital and kept overnight because she was under 2 years old. She ended up being fine and hasn't ever thrown up blood again.
