My music identity started developing at a young age most likely similar to a lot of people. All of my family from have always been country music fans and from the time of a small child to my pre-teen years, I listened to country with them until I was able to save my money and buy my first album.

My first CD that I bought was AC DC Live album that debuted in 1992. I chose this disc from a variety of music my brothers and father did not enjoy. This music was a great way for me to rebel against my family and set away from the kids at my school that only liked country music growing up in a small town. As I followed my interests in the 80s hair band genre I found other albums and artists that suited my passions and I then expanded my library of music to include White Snake and Van Halen: For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Van Halen was the first CD that I played on my PA system in my room which did not go over well with my family. My family and peers, at school, set me aside and eventually I gathered friends that I would have never made if I stuck with the music with which I grew up. Along with the Metal genre I do still enjoy others such as country because that is what I grew up listening to.

As I grew, and the fad music dropped I continued to branch off away from my peers at school still. I joined different groups and found friends from all sides of high school. One of the groups introduced me to an amazing band called Tool. I bought my first Tool album Lateralus. This band sparked new discovery into music for me while my brother and I started hanging out more and listening to the Alternative genre. The people I have met along my journey of music discovery have made my life so much more exciting. Going to see different bands in concert with military friends, has introduced me to so many other people with my same interests.

When stationed in Northern Italy I found myself with coworkers that like the same music. They invited me to my first concert in Milan, Italy where we watched the headliner Slayer. The first time I had been in a concert hall listening to a band I have loved since the middle of grade school. The difference between these two times is in my life is astronomical. Earlier in my life the people that knew I liked this music were not my friends because they did not like my music and would not hang out with me sometimes making fun of the music I liked. In contrast, my trip to this concert was I was surrounded by the people that I most connect with and end up loving as brothers and sisters due to the experiences created while being away from our childhood friends and family. Music has shaped my life with friendship and life lessons otherwise inconceivable if I had stayed listening to the same music my family back home is enjoying.
