The word lacquer comes from the Persian word "lak", which in Arabic is known as "summac" or red, then it is castellanized as "sumac", from where it derives "maque" which means hard and shiny varnish.
Chiapas lacquer has particularities that make it special, such as the almost exclusive use of "aje" (animal fat extracted from mealybug) and "tizate" (mineral soil), as a component of the bottoms; The way to apply it, just by hand, excluding the use of burnishing and other tools and its exclusively floral decoration.
