When I asked my dad what he used in schoool to learn he replied "We didn't have any of that fancy stuff! We had to watch out teacher write and erase. Sometimes the board got so dirty that it was hard to see what she was writing after almost a full day of class.
The highlight of our day was getting to erase the board. We were all waiting for her to pick the person who would do it hoping it was us.
You have no idea the struggle cause you kids have all those fancy white boards and technology now."

When I was in school back in the late 1990s and early 2000s I relied heavily on paper and pencil, or pen if I was feeling bold. Computers were just starting to ne a things and weren't really used in school for students, unless you had a class and Orgon trail was the hot game to play. We didn't get to use them for note taking or school assignments.

I rember computers came out when I was about a fresman in high school. It was so cool to me. The long internet dial up, and how you had to hurry because it took up the phone line and no one could call if you were using it. Having a computer and internet opened a new would. It was so cool to be able to find out things you needed to know in a flash instead of using books or making a trip to the library.
It defiantly made things less stressful in the sense of research.

Hearing how my dad had to look up things, made me aware of the fact that while a lot had changed in our school years some were still the same.
For papers or things we needed to find we had to physically search for it. Weither it was in the library, articles or new sources we actually had to put in the time to find it. It wasnt as simple as a quck google search like now.
You could sometimes spend hours searching for that right book and information you needed.

My sister said she grew up in the start of the technology world, but it wasn't in schools like it is now. She had better tools then she saw me grow up with, but her favorite was when she was able to use whiteboards to answer questions.
These were a thing in classes and replaced the old chalkboards. They were cleaner, allowed fast answers or a place to do work without wasting paper.

These things were so shiny and cool when my sister was in school. I didnt see them in classrooms till about my 8th grade year, but my sister had them for most of elementary.
I remember the teacher would have sheets of paper she would right on in marker and would switch it out when she needed a new page. it would show up bigger on the board and we could all copy down the notes.
I honestly never got the point of these because it was about the time whiteboards had come out into classrooms and the teacher could of just wrote on there, but now that I think back it saved a lot of erasing.

My son has grown up in a world where technology is key to anything. When I told him how I used to have to hand write everything and used so much paper, his response was wow I feel sorry for you, that must of been so hard.
He doesn't know school outside of technology or the struggles, my dad, sister and I had to go thru.
I think if he had to write things or comprehend and search like we did he would be failing school. He is smart and gets things but has the lazy, this is easy i just need to search and type something up attitude.
