The civil war was violent, chaotic, and had many repercussions. However, reconstruction was looking positive for a brief moment. There are many reasons why the reconstruction drive declined so quickly, but the main reasons are because it developed hate groups, there was an economic recession, and intense government corruption.

When attempting to rebuild America following the Civil War, the south retaliated, which resulted in organized forms of violence. After the Compromise of 1877 and the deals made with the presidential candidate Rutherford B. Many white supremacist groups led these retaliations, “the most infamous of these groups was the Ku Klux Klan” (Source 1).
