The Kalamazoo case made secondary education free and public like the common schools (elementary). The poorest were unable to afford secondary education, so the Kalamazo case helped to finance public high schools with taxes. In 1974, Lau v. Nichols case settled the efferots to give equality in education. This case ruled that non-English-speaking student should recieve supplemental English language classes. I ranked number four because the desicion in favor of supplemental classes was challenged and not easy to passed. Eventhough the experiments with early childhood education started before the Civil War, it was until 1873 when the first public kindergarten was established in US. I ranked this event number five for the importance of early literacy skills to prepare our children to succeed once in elementary school. The german developer of kindergarten, Friedrich Froebel, knew the importance of songs and stories as the foundation to smooth the transition to formal education in elementary schools.
