Athens was a Democracy.Athens only allowed free men to be citizens. All mean had to be over 18 to considered a citizen.Women and slaves could not be citizens. The council of five hundred met everyday.Men over thirty could be on the council. The council ran daily business and government and suggested new laws.Laws were approved by the Assembly. They met every ten days.6000 citizens had to be present for a meeting to be held.Sparta was a Oligarchy;this city-state was all military. They had assembly but the Council of Elders was way more important. This council consisted of 2 kings and 28 men.

Athens depended on trade. They were near the sea and able to trade with other people.Coins were made with silver ,bronze and gold this trading method took over another trading method;coins were just far more practical. An Agora is basically like a farmers market but way bigger;people bought everything from Agoras.Sparta depended on farming and conquering other city states.Helots took care of the plots of land so the Spartans could focus on other things.Helots are slaves that Sparta conquered from other city states.Iron Bars was payment in Sparta it was said that the reason this was because Iron bars are way harder to steal.

In Athens Boys were taught at home by their mom or a male slave in till the age of 6 or 7.When they turned fourteen they started to go to school. They were taught basically the same things we are taught. They also played sports like Wrestling and Gymnastics. At 18 they began military training.Girls just stayed at home with their mothers. At the age of 15 they married, poorer girls had more choice in marriage. In Spartan Boys and even girls went into Military training but girls did not join the Military.Education was all about having strong capable citizens.

Treatment of Women in Athens was poor to say the least, they had fewer rights then men and weren't even allowed to be citizens! They could not choose their husbands. They had few jobs some only sold stuff at markets. Some were priestesses. They also educated children.Slaves were most likely forced into slavery. And citizens owned at least one slave. They educated children, were clerks and some worked in silver mines. In Sparta women were plain and had freedom of speech in a way, they could speak with their husbands friends. They could own property and even remarry if their husband was gone at war to long.Slaves were called helots and were a big part of the Spartan Economy they took care of different plots of land so Spartan citizens could do other stuff.
