Radiolab's episode "Colors" dives into the way humans and animals perceive color!

Insights from Episode:

1. explores how different species see colors in ways that humans cannot even imagine. Eg. some animals, like mantis shrimp, have many more types of color receptors than humans. This gives them an entirely different view of the world.

2. examines how language shapes our ability to see and differentiate colors. They discuss research suggesting that ancient cultures may not have perceived certain colors (like blue) because they lacked words for them.

3. breaks down how our eyes and brain work together to create the perception of color. They also explain rods and cones in our eyes and how they interpret light.

4. touches on how early humans categorized colors and how different civilizations perceived and named them over time.

The Brett Cooper Show explores how generational shifts and cultural trends are reshaping our values, behaviors, relationships and communities.

She also talks about book themes, or just a single author's bibliography. In January of this year she posted a video of her just sitting in her car, with the title "Sentiments on George Orwell" where she discusses how the phenomenon of one culture being able to differentiate colors can be linked to how many words a language has for labeling colors is similar to how newspeak works in 1984.

Madeline is the only host of her podcasts and so she basically talk for an hour straight with guidance from notes that she's taken down during the past week. Considering that she's only in her early twenties, I find that the topics that she talks about are more closely related to my own life and the social culture that I experience in my life.
