Dear Dr. Davis:
I know you don't know me, but I thought that I should write this letter to you because your life has been an inspiration to me. I too am a product of growing up in an poor inner city neighborhood. Where my neighborhood was riddled with drugs and crime. I grew up in a broken home. My only outlet was going to school. I knew when I went to school I was guaranteed to eat breakfast and lunch. Thats why I tried my best to be there everyday even when I was sick. Showing that you was smart was a sure way of getting picked on so you learned to wear two hats. You could not walk down my block without seeing crack pipes, pimps and drug dealers. You see these were my role models growing up. It was fast money and fast times. I learned early on that education was the key to a better life. Some of my friends did not make it out. They sub combed to the drugs and the life of crime. Because I did not want to go down that route my so called friends turned their backs on me and became the ones I had to watch my back. Thank God for my Grandmother was was a constant in my life. She made sure I went to school and she would beg, borrow to ensure that I had descent clothes on my back. My grandmother was my saving grace. I am so grateful that you and the other Doctors beat the streets and are a role model for all inner city kids who have to overcome so many obstacles in order to be successful. Thank you for being so candid and giving the world a birds eye into your lives.
