Pandemic meant the same kind of changes as many other libraries - however many staff were laid off so there weren't the trained people to meet demands.

Other changes have been a large number of retirements/job leavers and a resultant newly hired staff, without an updated RA training program for new staff.

So lots of opportunity for growth!

The pandemic has to be the biggest factor in changing readers' advisory services. It both forced us to adapt quickly and afforded us the time to create new programs (online storytimes, curbside, a podcast, etc.) that we would not have been able to create without a break in traditional services. Three years on, we're seeing these new and old services level out. Some have stayed (curbside, podcast, book bundles) but some have run their course and have been retired.

I feel like social media has really made people come in and look for certain books. It doesn't always, but it often leads to them asking about readalikes.

A lot of people don't necessarily want to come in or have a question but they would be interested in doing form based RA - so fostering that as well as in person interactions. Erin C. - JCPL

Due to the pandemic our library started using Zoom ..an online platform for all types of classes and programs and continues to use zoom due to popularity of online programs.

Staff changes have had the most impact lately. Working with new staff with great customer service skills and a lot of love for the Library but not a lot of Library experience.

The prevalence and availability of streaming has reduced the need/desire for music CDs and DVDs.

Covid was a big one, as well as HB710, which required us to restructure out material's locations and accessibility.

How people are finding out about books has changed so much due to social media. This has definitely impacted the RA services in my library. We have always traditionally relied on staff being passionate readers but now we need them to be all over social media trends like booktok etc.
