Hook:
“PTSD is a whole-body tragedy, an integral event of enormous proportions with massive repercussions,'' said Susan Pease Banitt.
Background Info:
Post-Traumatic Stress disorder is common in the veteran community. There are many experiences that could cause PTSD while in the service, or even

after and not all of them are combat related. For instance, according to the Veterans Affairs health care, "55% of women who were in the military have experienced sexual harassment, and

23% reported sexual assault." Regardless of how it occurred, these traumatic experiences that lead

to PTSD have impacted the lives of the veteran community. Many veterans feel PTSD can be the

catalyst to many things that go wrong in their lives.
Thesis:
PTSD has impacted the lives of the veterans

by complicating the relationship with their families, increasing the thoughts of suicide, making it hard to keep working, and changing aspects of their personal identity; however, the Veterans Affairs

health care is providing resources to help veterans live with their condition.

Self-confidence can be Self-care

Hook:
“It’s hard to measure exactly how common low self-esteem is, but several studies have found that levels plummet as young people approach the teenage years, more so for girls than boys.” stated Amée LaTour.
Background Info:
Without a doubt, many people struggle with low self-esteem issues for a number of reasons which is mainly due to a lack of self-confidence. Self-confidence can be defined as being accepting and trusting of oneself and one's own abilities. Leading to the understanding that one is capable enough for what challenges lie ahead. Although when it comes to tackling these issues of low self-esteem, a lot of people might not know where to start building their self-confidence from. Showing an interest in changing is the very first step to becoming more self-confident, the next step is doing something about it. Learning to gain self-confidence can be a gradual process that can involve doing a number of things which can ensure one who is struggling with low self-esteem issues to feel more confident in oneself.
Thesis:
Some things that people can do to become more self-confident in oneself includes affirming oneself, setting oneself for rejection, questioning one’s inner critic and caring for oneself; however, having too much self-confidence can be negative and unhealthy.

The idea that journalists were these gatekeepers now disappearing at the turn of the century.

Background Info: The development of digital media has delivered innovations and has shifted all aspects of journalism practice. People can receive, and transmit information where and when they want. Blogs, tweets, Instagram, and Facebook posts create this digital conversation for everyone. At first, the people with the loudest voices made their presence felt, but then, others decided to join through the internet. People that have never seen themselves be written about in newspapers now have this outlet to tell their stories to be heard all around the world. Newsrooms should take advantage of what AI can offer to this field of work.

Thesis: The field of journalism is an outlet that is changing rapidly through the internet, affecting the traditional ways of storytelling, through this new immersive technology, permitting voices to be heard all over the world; however, there comes an uprise in fake news that spreads false information that travels very quickly.

One's Growth Mindset and Grit in College

Hook: What does growth mindset and grit have to do with students in college?

Background Info: Growth mindset can be easily mistaken by a fixed mindset as both lead to a desire, but unlike a fixed mindset that only cares for themselves. Growth mindset expands on other possibilities and thinks ahead to learn and put effort into what is to come. Grit is described as having bravery and displaying the strength of your character. It also has its own characteristics which are: Courage, Conscientious, Perseverance, Resilience, and Passion. People who adopt a growth mindset are more likely to be resilient and tenacious. Grit manifests itself in our desire to persevere in achieving and achieving a long-term target that we have set for ourselves. It's an attitude that comes from diligent work and perseverance toward a certain objective.

Thesis: As growth mindset and grit go hand in hand with each other and produce positive outcomes, it can help the student keep going in college be it through family matters, deadlines, or projects; however it can also heavily weigh you down as one loses hope on certain desires.

Gender Matters in Workplace Environments - Karla Salas

Hook:
Australian feminist writer, G.D Anderson once said, “Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong; it’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength”.

Background Info:
When the word “strength” comes to mind, usually, it would be used to describe physical strength. When comparing the physical strength of men and women, usually men would surpass that of women. Somehow, this has added to the idea that men are much more powerful than women, yet the reality is that it is much more complex than that. Historically, there has been an invisible line that divides the two genders. Just as the world keeps changing, the division between the two has also shifted, resulting in this border to be perceived as absurd and antiquated. There is still progress to be made within this matter, more specifically because of the incessant gender discrimination that women are susceptible to in workplace environments. For instance, according to the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, “The issue of sex and gender discrimination has become increasingly prevalent in modern life. In fact, over 40% of women in the U.S. have reported experiencing discrimination at work because of their gender” (Hofstra University, 2019). In order to protect women in the workforce, it is urgent to acknowledge all areas that derive from gender discrimination.

Thesis:
Gender discrimination has primarily affected the lives of women in their workplaces by sexual harassment, bullying, emotional abuse, and unequal pay; however, men and people of all genders in the LGBTQ community are also susceptible to gender discrimination.
