When postcolonial theory was brought up I was fist wondering if we were thinking about how change happens in a text. To my pleasure I was very wrong in this assumption. What I see postcolonial theory meaning or being is the way in which we asses the change that has happened and how we identify certain themes that are similar in what has happened. So, it is not just a theory but a way that we can dissect any source and see what makes it relevant or unique. Another thing this way of looking at the world is that in today’s society we can use these themes to see what the basis of a text or argument. Comparative to when it started when most things were in actual text and the themes were used as options to interpret what the general idea of the text was. Now we can still use the themes to dissect just about what ever we want any advertisement, modern movie, plays, etc.

Out of all the themes that make up postcolonial theory I feel the always apparent and universal one is identity. Most stories and media of the day today is about one’s identity, for better or for worse. With the news and many pop culture themes seeming to always ask what someone’s identity I feel very strong in my own identity. I am personally of Irish and Icelandic descent having been born in Ireland lived there till I was in junior high school. I then moved to Iceland where I finished up school and started learning about the world. I have now lived in the United States and have been trying to finish getting my College degree. So in my own life I am proud of my own identity and I feel everyone has there own pride in some form about there own identity. So, with that I like deciphering in modern media what identity are they trying for and is it a positive or negative reason.
