Harmful algae blooms are created through an overabundance of nutrients (usually nitrogen and phosphorous fertilizer) that algae use to grow and reproduce. This causes mass amounts of Algae (which are sometimes toxic) to strangle entire lakes or seas with their decomposing bodies and excrement.

Explain the negative effect on the environment.

Urban sprawl is when development of cities are focused outside of the city centers, frequently eating into parks, greenspace, and farmland. This usually creates the effect of a never ending grey hellscape of roads and small businesses scattered everywhere at random.

Provide an example of urban sprawl in your neighbourhood or community.

I'd say the entire city of surrey is a very good example of urban sprawl.
Around 50 years ago surrey was all rural farmland. Eventually expansion turned a rich ecosystem and farming community into our lovely city we have today. Urban sprawl is still continuing to spread in parts of south surrey.

Explain the negative effect on the environment.

Urban sprawl forces wildlife out of their habitats and ruins perfectly good farmland that would be better utilized for growing much needed food than real estate. Animals that live in the greenspace on the outskirts of cities are forced into small pockets of land. These animals eventually die due to lack of diversity and space to live in. These animals can also start to try and move into the city, possibly endangering the people that live there.
