How do I engage the outer community, parents, compound, etc… especially that they are set in their own ways and beliefs? 

Foe example, having visible tattoos, piercings, fun hair colors on teachers. 

 

The belief is, if you’re not a clean cut teacher, you obviously will teach unhealthy habits to the children. 

 

What excites you?

 

Being able to change the minds, open the minds and deviate from the fears of what has been stipulated to our community. 

 

What worries you?

 

That it is rejected and seen as we are not helping the community but making it worse.

The idea of activities where students could connect with other students around the world, for firsthand learning.

That students do not honor their own culture and background.

S  =  What suggestions do you have moving forward?

We should always start with where we are, students need to learn about their own culture and history first, then learn about what’s happening in the world. We are facing a huge problem in Egypt where students are not connected to their roots due to the westernization and adoption of the practices and culture of the west. Students are asked not to use their own language at school, which in my opinion is something we need to look out for.

 

 

Providing professional development

Having a focus on international-mindedness in staff professional development, as well as induction, is a significant aspect of a school’s work on international-mindedness

 

E= What excites me? Celebrating diversity

Schools celebrate diversity by creating a safe school environment where members of the community feel secure, respected and trusted to voice their differences. For example, posting signs or notices and displaying student learning in different languages not only promotes a sense of acceptance of difference but also sends the message that diversity enriches learning.

Teachers play an important role in celebrating diversity through modelling internationally minded values and dispositions

 

W= What worries you? 

Young people have strict mindset supported by their parent. Or parents are working against mindset concepts. 

 

S= What suggestions do you have moving forward

School Training for everyone in the school not only academic staff members. Its not helpful that only academic staff members only one believe and work in the international mindedness environments’. It should include parents, workers, admin staff , co –workers …etc 

 

 

Excites = We will engage with so many different cultures, viewpoints, etc on a daily basis with opportunities to celebrate them from time to time

Worries = Students who bully others because of their differences 

Suggestions = classroom display ideas
