I starred this passage because it is comforting to the family. Even though what they're going through (segregation) is terrible, and so hard, the mom is telling the kids what their aunt Kay believed. I always think this when something bad happens, it happened for a reason. It is really hard to think about bad things happen for a reason. I always go to God when bad things happen and so it is hard to understand why God would put you through hard times, even when he loves you so much. On 293 the text says the plan belonged to God. I think this too in hard times I just keep thinking God is going to get me through this and this was his plan for me. This is also trying to explain that in all hard times in life there will always be a good turn out from that time. In this poem Jacqueline was talking with Maria about what if this never happened it wouldn't lead to this, and they said a few examples. And I think Jacqueline was starting to realize that certain events lead up to other events. For example: if Jacqueline stayed and Greenville and never moved to New York, the chances are that she would have never met Maria. And the last sentence on page 296 says "Nope I say. Neither can I.

For some reason the fist sentence on this page that said, " Everything happens for a reason." In my mind, I connected this back to when Grandpa died and it seemed like he died as an unbeliever. Just looking back at the whole book this one sentence  stood out to me because if you think about it, almost everything that happened has happened for a reason. For example they moved from Ohio to Greenville for a reason.
