The goal I chose was: "Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all". This goal was created to address the decrease in wetlands in the environment and the alarmingly low availability of safe, monitored water globally.

If this goal was met completely, everyone would have safe access to clean and affordable water for drinking and sanitation. Water treatment and usage would be more efficient. Water ecosystems would also be restored.

Standardized tools that can measure water quality within ecosystems and populations would allocate that data and indicate the proportion of such systems that are adequate. ie - the proportion of the population with safe drinking water.

This interested me because of how vital water is. You can only go a few days without water, and with a growing population, this seemed like a rather demanding need.

Hi class,

In 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, including SDG 7, which is a call for action to "ensure access to afforable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all." (United Nations, n.d.)

In sum, SDG 7 aims at closing the energy access gap and rapidly transitioning to decarbonized energy systems. According to their data, 760 million people currently live without electricity. Additionally, SDG 7 was proposed, in part, to limit an estimated temperature rise to 1.5 Celsius that will occur by 2030. This goal calls for a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by 45% below 2010 levels by 2030 (United Nations, n.d.).

The milestones they lay out are not hard to quantify. Their 2025 milestones this goal seeks to achieve is providing 500 million more people access to electricity, and a 100% increase in modern renewables capacity globally. Moreover, they lay out some milestones that are hoped to be achieved by 2030, which include double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency and to triple global renewable power capacity. Additionally, by 2030, this goal hopes to phase out coal power plants within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

I am interested in this goal because I am studying Computer Engineering which involves a decent amount of electrical engineering topics such as these. I also am interested in this topic because I somewhat support the solar power sector and the production of electric vehicles. They don't define with specificity what renewable energy sources they are seeking to implement, but I am also one who advocates for the use of more nuclear power plants and wish I would see more mention of this as a solution to transitioning away from burning hydrocarbons for fuel.

While I think SDG 7 is a worthwhile pursuit, I think they will face some obstacles in achieving some of their goals. Many things other than power rely heavily on hydrocarbons. Some of the clothes we wear, the roads we drive on, the buildings we live and work in, all are constructed using at least some raw materials that come from hydrocarbons directly, or by-products of them. I also can tell you that the efficiency of solar panels currently is about 15%, and even if we achieve 100% efficiency (which would essentially break certain laws of physics and thermodynamics), only about 1 kW of energy can be harnessed from one square meter of solar energy. My computer that I am writing this on consumes about 800 Watts per hour, so I would need one square meter of uninterrupted solar energy at 80% efficiency to power it continuously. Despite these challenges, it will be interesting to see how many of those milestones are actually achieved nonetheless.

References
United Nations. (n.d.).

The goal I chose to read about was "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." The title is self-explanatory but this goal was created so that all people would have opportunities to learn. Covid-19 was a major setback to achieving this goal. According to the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, "Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the world was already off-track to achieve its education targets. If no additional measures are taken, only one in six countries will meet SDG4 and achieve universal access to quality education by 2030. An estimated 84 million children and young people will still be out of school and an estimated 300 million student will still not have the basic numeracy and literacy skills they need to succeed in life. To deliver SDG4, education systems must be re-imagined, and education financing must become a priority national investment."

I think that the world would look vastly different if this goal was completely achieved. There are a lot of people in the world and if everybody, that wanted to, could have access to quality education we would have so many more people trying to solve the world's problems. The more people that are on the same level progressing towards the same goal would be able to solve a lot of issues.

One measurement that will constitute measurable movement is by the proportion of population in a given age group achieving at least a fixed level of proficiency in functional (a) literacy and (b) numeracy skills.

This goal interests me because a lot of my family are currently teachers. So I hear about the good things that schools are doing but also how the schools are failing. This interests me as well because I believe that this is one of most important in helping to solve all the other problems.

No Poverty-Diego Sarrazin

The first United Nations´ Sustainable development goals is No Poverty. This is one of the seventeen goals that were proposed in 2015 to improve the world by 2030. Particularly, this goal has a total of 7 targets, which are intended to reduce and even eradicate poverty by protecting and offering conditions that could help people to improve their socioeconomical status.

If we achieved this goal, the world would be very different as we know it today. Probably, we would notice that more people would be able to afford basic and fundamental resources that they were not able to get before. This point is more speculative but something makes me thing that if this goal was completely achieved, people may prefer to stay in their home country rather than immigrate to a different place. Again, this may not be completely true but it could be in some cases. Also, I think that we would see a different politic scenario, in which people would need less help and intervention from the state. Meaning that things like food stamps, or financial aid would be less required, and people could finally achieve a higher extent of independency.

Since this SDG has seven targets, there are many ways to measure the progress toward this goal. If I had to choose one, it would be eradicating extreme poverty for all people everywhere by 2030. Suggesting this implies that the lowest socioeconomical category would be eliminated, and poor people would be closer to achieve a higher degree of prosperity.

Finally, I am interested in this Sustainable Development Goal because it makes people realize the hard situation that other people suffer. Sometimes we think we have not enough resources, and forget there are people who cannot even have access to the basic needs. Another point that attracts me is how we can see this goal in a political view. From where I com from (and other South American countries) many people/politicians believe that the problem is inequality, and not poverty, so it is common to see policies like tax-increase to the rich people (who usually do not represent a considerable amount of the population), or income distribution. However, I consider that we should focus more on how to eliminate poverty, and not how to equal the income of all people. If a government offers conditions to help people to increase their wealth, the rich will be richer and the poor will be richer too, meaning that progressively their income will be higher. The difference (inequality) still exists but now the conditions are better since people are able to move upward in the socioeconomical stratification.

The goal I decided to look into was “Affordable and Clean Energy”. This goal revolves around creating and using affordable, reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly sources of electrification. A few examples include solar energy received by solar panels and wind energy received by wind turbines. In other words, the goal is to simply build and innovate solar panels and wind turbines and distribute access equally amongst the population, including remote areas.

When predicting the effects of the successful accomplishment of the goal, it is important to understand the targets. The targets mostly include universal access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services, increased usage of environmentally friendly solutions, and innovate on currently available options. If these goals are met, the world would become an eco-friendly place. This means that the environment won't be damaged due to air pollution, humans will be healthier, and more energy-intensive solutions can be invented for other applications. Additionally, this would increase equality amongst humanity as people would have access to energy and cover a few of the essential parts of human demand such as heating.

A measurement that will constitute measurable movement toward that goal is the proportion of the population with primary reliance on clean fuels and technology. This is because it would show the usage of clean energy by the population, and its availability to people around the world, including remote areas. If the value is big, then more people have access to clean energy and more remote areas are receiving energy, but if the value is low, then a few people use clean energy along with the remote areas.

This goal interests me in particular because upon graduating I plan to enter the renewable energy industry. I have a great interest in the electrification of the planet and choose to surround myself with additional information on related topics. Choosing this topic allows me to get a greater world view of the problems that need to be solved and which I can apply my skills to solve.

Universal access to quality education would be a transformative change in our world. Regardless of socioeconomic background, ethnicity, gender, or geographical location, every individual would have equal and unhindered access to education. This would involve effectively addressing barriers such as poverty, discrimination, and lack of infrastructure, ensuring that education becomes a fundamental right for all.

Achieving this goal would result in enhanced opportunities for personal and professional development. Quality education would equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to thrive in various aspects of life. A more skilled and adaptable workforce would emerge, fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and contributing to overall social progress.

Measuring progress towards the goal of quality education requires the consideration of various indicators. One important aspect is lifelong learning opportunities. By monitoring participation rates in adult education, vocational training, and other forms of lifelong learning, we can gauge the extent to which learning opportunities are provided to individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

Another crucial indicator is learning outcomes. Assessing the knowledge and skills acquired by students through standardized tests or competency-based evaluations helps ensure the delivery of quality education.

As our population continues to grow each day, the need for food has increased more than ever before. The goal of "Zero Hunger" was created in order to aid in the sustainment of agricultural production, and food security to overall improve the global supply chain. In other words, the goal is to "ensure that all who are suffering from hunger and malnutrition have access to nutritious food" ( United Nations, n.d. ). Some potential solutions to this problem may be elimination of food waste, investment into farmers, and various others possibilities.

If this goal were to be achieved, this would ultimately benefit countries that do not have access to plentiful food sources, dissimilar to developed countries that often take the value of food for granted. In addition, this would allow less developed countries, with fewer sources, to shift their focuses to other significant issues, such as the other 16 Global Sustainable Development Goals. The solution to this conflict would also prevent the impact of common illnesses, that can quickly turn fatal without the intake of necessary nutrition. For instance, many children suffer from stunted growth due to the lack of "adequate nutrition during the critical 1000 days from the beginning of pregnancy..." ( United Nations, n.d.), which can cause more severe problems later in development stages.

A measurement that can constitute measurable movement towards "Zero Hunger" can be done through various options. One of the potential solutions can be done through a 6 month or annual nutritional assessment with a professional. This then measures a individuals height, weight and other factors to determine whether one is receiving the sufficient amount of nutrients to lead a healthy life.

This topic interested me because such a simple day-to-day resource has the ability to impact the lives of millions around the entire globe. As mentioned before, the value of food is often not thought about, and it is usually even taken for granted. I believe that goal of "Zero Hunger" has great potential in making significant changes around the world.

Life on Land - Taehoon Kim

The conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity is important not only for the humanity's survival, but also for social and economic development. But a continued decline in biodiversity and loss of forest areas threatens human prosperity, particularly with poor rural populations, including indigenous and local communities, affected. Biodiversity and forests play a role of reducing a poverty, for example, by supporting food security and human health, providing clean air and water, absorbing carbon dioxide emissions, and providing a foundation for environmental development. Goal 15 calls for the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of ecosystems, with the aim of halting deforestation, restoring degraded forests, and substantially increasing reforestation by 2020. Also, it calls for combating desertification by 2030 and restoring land affected by desertification, drought, and floods. To protect biodiversity, Goal 15 calls for urgent measures to end the poaching and trafficking of protected plants and animals.

Achieving this goal can lead to success in various fields because the success of this goal will link with the success of other SDGs. For example, for “Clean Water and Sanitation” and “Affordable and Clean Energy”, protecting biodiversity and maintaining the conservation of wetlands and forests play a huge role in acquiring and replenishing freshwater resources, as natural ecosystems serve as filters to purify water and protect against diseases that can harm animal or human health. The article (2021) states the explanation that “Ecosystem purifies water by trapping sediments and removing nutrients and harmful chemicals. On their journey to the watershed, tiny sediment particles settle as the water begins to slow. Wetlands can remove up to 90% of these sediments” (para. 4). For “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, protected ecosystems and biodiverse environments can improve economic returns by attracting tourists and new eco-friendly products. For “Climate Action” and “Life below Water”, maintaining biodiversity to halt deforestation, restore degraded forests, and substantially increasing reforestation plays a vital role in helping to mitigate climate change. In addition, the impact of land-based activities such as agricultural expansion, land reclamation, and urban development on the ecosystem negatively affects the goals of SDGs 13, 14, and 15.

According to SDG 15, managing forests sustainably, restoring degraded lands and successfully combating desertification, reducing degraded natural habitats, and ending biodiversity loss are the key indicators. Thus, a measurement that will constitute measurable movement toward the goal of SDG 15 is the percentage of the total land area classified as protected, the proportion of significant sites of protected land biodiversity, and the proportion of sites of protected freshwater biodiversity. To achieve the goal of SDG 15, we should check the current status and anticipated progress gap efficiently with these measurements.

The goal of SDG 15 interested me since it focused on fundamental things like land, water, air, and living organism. Since most problems occurring on Earth are derived from fundamental things, we can solve various issue through an interest in fundamental things. Focusing on the fundamentals will help us simplify and streamline our efforts. By identifying the core principles that matter most, we can cut through the clutter and focus on what's important.

                                        Reference

Emma, C.

As explained by the UN, energy is at the heart of almost every significant global concern and opportunity today. “Affordable and Clean Energy” is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.

If this goal were met completely, the world would experience significant transformations. We will be able to provide cheap electricity to everyone by investing in renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and thermal. We can access clean energy including renewable energy, energy efficiency, and advanced and cleaner fossil-fuel technology. Additionally, we can provide modern and sustainable energy services to all developing countries, particularly least developed countries, small island developing states. Moreover, with the help of better infrastructure and low-cost sustainable electricity, we can achieve efficient and reliable distribution of clean energy for everyone.

In order to measure progress toward this goal, several methods need to be used. We want to keep track of the percentage of the population that has access to electricity in their homes and commercial purposes. We also want to record the proportion of renewable energy that are used for total energy consumption and the expenses that were spent on renewable energy in the unit of GDP.

This particular goal interests me because providing universal access to energy is crucial in developing diverse fields such as employment, safety, environment, food production, manufacturing... Clean energy provides sustainable power supplies that fuel many industries in the long term. Therefore, renewable energy can reduce greenhouse effect, protect biodiversity and promote economic development.

The problem I read about discusses how our unsustainable consumption patterns are leading us to higher levels of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. It also mentions how our reliance on natural resources has gone up 65% from 2000 to 2019. However, the one that interested me the most was about our food waste. It mentions that 13.3% of food is wasted after harvesting and 17% of food is wasted at a consumer level. I believe that the solution for this goal is to stop buying your highly processed from supermarkets and start buying locally grown food. If this problem were fixed, I think the majority of people would be much happier because they are no longer eating highly processed foods that make you sick. A measurement that will constitute measurable movement toward the goal would be seeing if the food waste percentages go down when more people start buying locally. This particular goal interests me because I think a major problem in our society is diet and the food waste aspect of this goal ties into it a little bit. Processing is one of four parts in the 13.3% of food loss, so if people stopped eating processed foods, which are horrible for you, then not only would food waste go down, but those people will also be healthier.

The Goal “No poverty” would look into ways to improve the efficiency and affordability of renewable energy technologies like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, as well as energy storage possibilities. This research would contribute to lowering carbon emissions, combating climate change (SDG 13), and enhancing access to sustainable energy for all (SDG 7), by addressing the energy needs of neglected populations and promoting the transition to clean energy. Furthermore, it would strengthen these regions' resilience and economic development, producing a more inclusive and sustainable society.

Measurable progress toward the aim of "no poverty" can be measured using a variety of indicators and assessments. This particular aim appeals to me since poverty is a major global issue that impacts millions of people and has far-reaching social, economic, and humanitarian consequences. Achieving "no poverty" would not only improve individuals' lives, but would also contribute to overall social stability, economic progress, and long-term development. It is a goal that represents the desire to create a more equitable and just world in which everyone has equal access to necessary resources and services.

Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is committed to delivering inclusive and equitable quality education for all people in order to provide opportunities for lifelong learning. I clicked on the link that provides more information on SDG 4 to learn more about this goal.

Regardless of background, gender, or location, every child would have access to free, high-quality education from preschool through university. Issues including poverty, gender inequity, and disabilities would no longer be a barrier to children's educational opportunities.

Education systems would favor efficient teaching and learning techniques. Educators that are well-trained and motivated would provide students with the knowledge, abilities, and competences necessary for their own personal development and active citizenship. Schools would have adequate resources, infrastructure, and technological capabilities to deliver effective educational experiences.

To measure progress toward this goal, several indicators can be considered. Making ensuring that every child has access to education by keeping track of the number of kids enrolled in elementary, intermediate, and higher education. Monitoring literacy rates among adults and children to assess the performance of educational programs. Measuring gender parity in education to guarantee that boys and girls have the same opportunities. Ensuring that enough money is allocated to education by monitoring investments made in it by the public and private sectors.

Since it is the foundation of sustainable progress and the answer to realizing the potential of every person, I am interested in the pursuit of excellent education. Education not only equips people with the knowledge and abilities they require, but also with the capacity to significantly impact society. Achieving Goal 4 will lead to a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to grow and contribute to their fullest potential.

The goal of providing inclusive and equitable quality education to all is one that emphasizes the importance of access and infrastructure. Not only does the goal propose that all people regardless of gender, sex, income level, ethnicity and ability should have access to quality education, it also marks one of it's targets as providing pre-primary education and early childhood development care, as well as increasing the supply of well- trained teachers. If the goal were met completely, significantly more funding would be set aside for the payment of teachers, the expansion/ access to the internet especially in developing countries and the spaces/ structures where schooling is done (ensuring that that environment is safe and non-violent.) One of the measurements that will mark progress towards the completion of this goal is to analyze the proportion of a given population who show a fixed level of proficiency in functional literacy and numeracy. This particular goal interests me because it encapsulates so many different issues. With the recent rise of gun violence in schools, what does it mean to provide safe, secure education? What does it mean to provide accessible tertiary education to the population? What things influence that accessibility?

The goal that I read about was in regard to Goal 11, make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Specifically in regard to Sustainable Transport. Transport is used by every human being on the planet in one form or another, whether is be by horse carriage or rocket ships. Transportation has a big effect on global emissions and energy use. Transportation is necessary in order to get our supplies, food, and healthcare. The goal of the Sustainable Transportation is to provide more access to everybody, to create efficient ways of transporting good and/or people, and having better access to transportation to a wide-array of places in the world. If the world was able to obtain the goal of sustainable transportation, new technologies would be more common such a maglev trains that are very energy efficient and trains that are solar-powered. If that goal were met, global emissions would be greatly reduced along with the cost of transportation. Transportation is so tightly engrained into the economy so we would see financial booms, people being capable of buying whatever they want and having it delivered in a timely and efficient matter, with very little impact on the environment. Measuring this goal would look like a decrease in poverty, global-emissions, faster delivery of goods, and easier access to a wider-range of locations. This goal interests me because it is such a big part of society and is one of the leading contributors to climate-change.

Andrew Clark - Clean and Affordable Energy

The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Goal 7: Affordable and Environmentally Friendly Energy is the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) that I have decided to concentrate on. By the year 2030, this goal aims to "guarantee everyone's access to affordable, dependable, eco-friendly, and modern energy." Upon complete fulfillment of this objective, our world would undergo substantial transformations compared to its current state. Foremost, every individual, irrespective of their economic status or geographical positioning, would benefit from reliable and economical energy solutions. The energy accessible would not only be cost-effective and reliable but also eco-friendly and modern - derived from renewable sources such as wind, solar, and hydro, as opposed to fossil fuels. This transition would drastically reduce the amount of damaging emissions released into the atmosphere, thereby aiding in the alleviation of climate change. It would also stimulate economic growth and poverty reduction, as access to energy serves as a fundamental cornerstone for varied forms of economic and social progression.

Several indicators could be utilized to gauge progress towards this objective. These encompass the ratio of the population with electricity access, the percentage of total final energy consumption originating from renewable sources, and the degree of energy intensity (measured via the total energy usage to GDP ratio). These metrics offer a definitive, quantitative method to monitor progress and ensure that actions are propelling us towards the intended direction. This particular target intrigues me because energy is a key component of almost all major global economic, environmental, and societal problems. Sustainable energy availability is essential for all issues, including income growth, food production, climate change mitigation, and job development. It also highlights how the SDGs are interconnected because achieving this objective would greatly advance other SDGs like fighting climate change, creating sustainable cities and communities, and promoting economic growth and decent jobs.

Accomplishing economical and eco-friendly energy for all is a daunting endeavor, yet with unified global action, it is entirely achievable. I look forward to witnessing the innovations and collaborations that will take shape in the pursuit of this goal.

Of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the one that interested me the most was the goal of maintaining life below water. This goal is about conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
The UN explains that our current way of utilizing marine resources has caused problems such as rise in water temperature, over fishing, plastic pollution, acidification, and so on. Although the ocean covers the vast majority of our world, not much thought has gone into keeping it sustainable, especially since we tend to think it does not directly effect us. Working to meet this goal is important because the oceans, seas, and costal areas make up an essential part of our ecosystem. Not only do they help regulate the Earth's climate, but they can also provide sustainable ways of life with their resources. However, due to human intervention such as overfishing, CO2 emissions, and plastic waste, the marine ecosystems have been thrown off balance, so it is important to restore this balance.

The subject I decided to look into is the Affordable and clean energy goal. In the world today giving electricity to people without power has decreased due to the challenge of reaching the hardest-to-reach areas of the world. Along with this millions are still using older methods of cooking like using gas. On the track that we're on now the globe needs to improve its energy efficiency or climate change will take a turn for the worse. Many of the developing countries in the world are actually reducing the amount of money that they are spending on working towards more renewable energy. Though many renewable energy sources have increased across the globe they only take up 17.7% of energy sources in the world.

If the world tried to meet the goals of this problem here it would see every country in the world with ample access to clean energy. The energy would be renewable and clean so as to not affect climate change.

Measurements towards this goal would be the amount of solar, wind, and other sources of renewable energy that is used. Another would be the number of people in the world with access to clean energy.

This subject interested me because I feel like this is a great takeoff point to solve all the other problems in the world after it's solved.

To be honest meeting the goal of Sustainable consumption and production patterns may be impossible. At this point in our society we rely so heavily on fossil fuels and carbon emitting products that would be foolish to say we could completely eliminate pollution. Sustainable energy is in the works however to produce those products are required to mine an extract from the Earth many valuable and rare resources. Unless we figure out some way to exponentially improve battery technology, mines will continue to run on coal power and fossil fuels. A measurable movement would be reduction in PPM (parts per million) in our atmosphere as well as Microplastics in the ocean. In the state of Utah We have a problem with recycling and air pollution. Every winter we are plagued with heavily polluted air that never seems to leave the valley. And on a yearly basis we struggle to recycle in an efficient manner,we don't even recycle glass. This topic directly affects me and that is why I am so inspired by this topic.

It is important for everyone no matter where they come from, how much money they have or their gender that they are able to have the education they deserve. These restrictons on people nowdays are made because they can't afford to go to school or enable to recieve education where they live. In order to reach this goal we have to get rid of these barriers.

If we are able to reach this goal it will be benefiting everyone. I say this because their are many people out there that want to become doctors or teachers but don't have the acces to an education to achieve these goals. With this goal being achieved we will be able to gain a larger group of doctors or other careers. Not only will be able to be equipted with great works but this could ultimately create economic growth as we are able to expand companies create product and become more efficent with educated individuals.

A main reason why this paticular goal interest me is because I am from a pretty poor part of Mexico.

The goal I have chosen to research for this assignment is Sustainable Development Goal 11 - Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. This goal encompasses a wide range of improvements needed to complete it. For instance, it advocates for creating safe and affordable housing, making public transportation more accessible, managing municipal waste cleanup efficiently, planning cities in sustainable ways, safeguarding cultures in cities, reducing direct impacts of disasters, changing air quality to be better, making green spaces, and ensuring vulnerable communities have protections to make cities more inclusive and diverse. If all of these were improved upon significantly, it would meet this goal.

If this goal were completed, cities would not be as we know them now. Unhomed populations would have access to safe housing, vulnerable groups like women and children would hopefully be safer outside and in parks, cities would be able to have sophisticated networks of public transportation that allow all individuals a path to their essential services, sanitation would be better as would pollution, and so much more. All of this really indicates that quality of life in cities would be better for everyone around the globe. It would create better economies, allow more people access to education, reduce the impact of people dying or endangered by disasters and improve how cities are run by state and local government.

I think looking at numbers on municipal waste cleanup can be an indicator on how cities are becoming cleaner, and thus safer. Looking at information on the economy can also be a measurement tool, as it will likely improve once more people have access to public transportation and thus have access to jobs, schools, etc. Looking at measurements of development, like population growth and housing growth, can also be good indicators because if these numbers are all harmonious with each other it can mean the city has planned itself in a way that lends to sustainability instead of housing crisis or related troubles. There are so many other indicators, even stuff like looking at percentage of green space in urban areas, going on in cities that this goal is really encompassing. Since it is a broad goal accomplished with specific tasks, it is important to plan out those tasks and stick to them. Accountability for this is a huge emphasis to its success.

This goal interested me because I have spent a fair bit of time researching cities and related affairs for my geography major requirements. I am always intrigued by how issues vary in severity across the world, and this goal seems like it would start to resolve a lot of those disparities through funding and planning. I hope to see the targets of this goal being met at a faster pace than they have been since 2015 as we move to 2030.

To me, it would be impossible to imagine what the world would look like if we fully met the goals of gender equality. I honestly do not think there is another issue we could address which would improve the other issues we are concerned with, especially those brought up in the UN's SDG's. To me, gender equality is almost synonymous with equal opportunity to education. Gender Equality isn't just about women't reproductive rights or healthcare, neither is educating women merely about giving the women closest to privilege equal opportunity to their male peers. Gender equality is about empowerment to solve real-world problems.

Research shows education for women is linked to equilibrium in the global population, economy, and environment. Education for everyone, especially for women women, empowers people to make informed decisions about their lives, health, and families; it breaks down traditional stereotypes and discrimination. Gender equality means conflict resolution, greater innovation and diversity in development, and breaking cycles of violence. If the world achieved gender equality, representation in the media would not be a simple equation of arithmetic. It would be about the wide possibilities for human excellence, for independent identities and community development.

To measure the achievements of gender equality, we would need to determine objective, statistical measurements for changes in violence, education access, environmental protection and sustainable development. A hegemony of totalitarian control will not achieve the changes we wish to see in the world. Human beings are not capable of considering the factors, which would mean retaining ALL the necessary information and perspectives, to reach these goals through totalitarian control. We need diversity for holistic, global change. In other words, we could measure all other SDGs and consider each of their objective measures of success as indicators of gender equality.
