-Meaning: Tradition tells that the chime changed the world on July 8, 1776, when the Liberty Bell rang out from the tower of Independence Hall summoning the citizens of Philadelphia to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonel John Nixon.
-Importance: After the divisive Civil War, Americans sought a symbol of unity. To help heal the wounds of the war, the Liberty Bell would travel across the country.
Starting in the 1880s, the Bell traveled to cities throughout the land "proclaiming liberty" and inspiring the cause of freedom. A replica of the Liberty Bell, forged in 1915, was used to promote women's suffrage. It traveled the country with its clapper chained to its side, silent until women won the right to vote. On September 25, 1920, it was brought to Independence Hall and rung in ceremonies celebrating the ratification of the 19th amendment.

-Meaning: Anointing with oil has all these meanings in the sacramental life. The pre-baptismal anointing with the oil of catechumens signifies cleansing and strengthening; the anointing of the sick expresses healing and comfort. The post-baptismal anointing with sacred chrism in Confirmation and Ordination is the sign of consecration.
-Use within Liturgy: Oils are used at Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and Holy Orders. Oil of the Sick is used for Anointing of the Sick. Oil of Catechumens is used before the candidate is baptized with water. Further, Holy Chrism is used at Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders. In addition, Holy Chrism is also used in the dedication ceremony of a church.
-Scripture Reference: "Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord" (James 5:14).
