Ckuwaponahkik, means "the land of the dawn." Changing the ending to ckuwaponahki (long form of waponahki) means a single person from the Dawnland, and ending with iyik denotes a group of people. Ergo, Waponahki, or Wabanaki, is interprested to mean "the people of the dawn."
