The year Hinduism started in 1500BC. Some of the gods include Shiva, Vishnu, Shakti, Ganesha and other demi-gods. Hinduism started in India.  Some of the basic Hindu beliefs are The truth is eternal. Brahman is Truth and Reality. The Vedas are the ultimate authority. Everyone should strive to achieve dharma. Individual souls are immortal. The goal of the individual soul is moksha. Diwali Festival of Lights is a major holiday that is also celebrated by Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs. It extends over 5 days and celebrates the victory of good over evil.  Some Jains may choose to fast for the two days of Divali. Ganesha Chaturthi celebration the birth of Ganesha, son of Shiva.  Festival may last 10 days or may be celebrated at home. The building for Hindu worship is called a Mandir which is a temple. Each temple is dedicated to a different god or goddess. Hindus make offerings to a murti. A murti is a sacred statue of God, or a god or goddess. The golden rule in Hinduism is "This is the sum of duty; do naught onto others what you would not have them do unto you.”
